Summary: After suffering a mild seizure at work, (Y/n) tries to make her way home. But it doesn't go well when a car crash leaves her seriously injured. And her partner and brother have to come to her aid.
(Note: I'm very sorry to the anon who requested this that it took me so long to write this, and I can't find the request in my inbox. I hope you find this and like it)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Tilting his head back towards the ceiling, Ravi closed his eyes and let the illuminating lights shine down over his eyes. He let himself get adjusted to the bright lights in the station which always confused his mind when he was coming on a night shift.
He didn't often do night shifts. He didn't often work shifts with Buck either, but more recently their shift patterns had been lining up together. It always made things interesting to work with Buck who was practically a brother to Ravi.
He slung his bag higher on his shoulder and walked ahead into the station but he took a step back when, speak of the devil, Buck rounded the corner from behind the truck.
"Probie." He dipped his head in greeting and flashed his pearly whites as Ravi raised a brow.
"Evan." He retorted in the same tone and manner before he went to walk past him, knowing that Buck didn't like being called by his real name. On his way past, Ravi snatched the clipboard from under Buck's arm and carried on walking. "You shouldn't have one of those." He muttered over his shoulder and set the clipboard down on one of the benches nearby.
He made his way into the locker room and shoved his bag into his locker, making sure to take out his phone and slide it in his back pocket. He liked to have it on him in case of emergencies.
"Babe…"
He almost didn't see (Y/n) when he did a quick sweep of the room, scouting round to see where her voice came from.
A grin spread across Ravi's face for a mere second before he looked down at his girlfriend and took in the state of her.
She was sat on the floor in the corner of the room with her back pressed up against the glass wall. Her legs were stretched out in front of her, her head was tilted back against the wall and her hands were nervously rubbing up and down her knees.
"Hey, you okay?" Panic and concern flooded Ravi's voice as he quickly shut his locker and moved across the room.
He knelt down in front of her, leaning his left elbow on his knee while his right hand reached out to hold (Y/n)'s thigh. It wasn't normal to find (Y/n) here in the locker room, she barely came in here other than to get her things when it was the end of shift. And he knew her shift didn't finish for another two hours. Their shifts had lined up tonight for a mere two hours, whereas the rest of the week they would be on the same shift pattern together.
"I think an episode is g-gonna happen soon."
Reaching her left hand out, (Y/n) grabbed Ravi's wrist that was on her thigh with a sense of urgency. She knew he would be able to feel the way she was already starting to tremble and the foggy feeling that was coming over her mind would be making her pupils blow wide.
Epilepsy and being a firefighter didn't go together hand in hand. (Y/n) was extremely lucky that her epilepsy was well-controlled with her medication and that her team were understanding. She knew if she worked at a different fire house, she might not have such understanding colleagues. Or have a Captain who was always able to help her and swap shifts if needed.
If (Y/n) could sense a seizure coming on, she would hang back at the station if a call happened. She could take some time to herself if needed. Bobby would make sure if she felt one coming on when they were out on a call- which didn't happen often- that she was safe and well looked after.
Plus, having her partner working with her was a relief. As well as having her big brother around to help if needed. Buck was very protective.
"Okay, that's okay. We'll sit through it together." A smile formed on Ravi's lips as he shifted round so he was sat down on the cold marble floor with her.
He gently lifted her legs so he could stretch his legs out and press them into (Y/n)'s thighs like he was caging her in his embrace. His heels pressed into the back of her hips and he gently lowered her legs down so they were laid over his thighs like they were children playing some kind of game. His hands smoothed up and down her legs, which he noticed were tense and tightening up.
He could feel the muscles in the underside of her thighs, tensing and straining like they were being strtched to their limits, and it made her legs jitter and shake on top of his thighs. And with the heel of her boots resting on the floor beside Ravi's hips, it caused an incesant tapping to sound through the air as her heels hit the floor every time her legs shook.
Ravi dragged his fingertips up and down her thighs and he smiled softly when he felt (Y/n)'s hands move to grip his wrists.
"Have you been okay, up to now?" Ravi kept a mental count of all the times (Y/n) had seizures. They had to make sure she wasn't getting them more frequently in case she had to talk to the doctor and change her medication. The last two she had were absent seizures which were easier for (Y/n) than tonic clonic seizures.
"Felt it looming all afternoon." (Y/n) grumbled before she closed her eyes and tilted her chin down into her chest.
All afternoon she had felt something pulling at the back of her head, like an oncoming headache or a storm about to roll in on the waves. But it hadn't happened. She had gone on all the calls today but now, just after a shower, she felt her body beginning to seize up.
The locker room had been the closest place when (Y/n) knew her legs were going to give way and her head was fogging over. She almost crawled in here and slumped down to the floor just before Ravi walked in. And she was more than relieved that her partner was the one who walked in rather than anyone else.
(Y/n) couldn't lift her head from her chest, it felt too heavy like her head was full of bricks. Her eyes closed to ward off the sickness that washed over her and to block out the bright lights that only made her headache worse.
Her fingertips started to turn numb and stiff as if they were hardening like cement and she realised she was starting to dig her nails into Ravi's wrists. She couldn't move her hand to release him or prevent from causing him any pain. But he didn't say anything.
She could practically feel his stare burning into her skin as he watched her intently, checking all the symptoms she was having and for any signs of pain or discomfort. There wasn't much that Ravi could do for her right now, but he was damned if he wouldn't try and help somehow.
He knew she had started to seize already because she wasn't moving her head, and he knew keeping her head angled down like that was surely going to hurt her neck.
But the sudden stuttering breaths and the little whimpers (Y/n) let out broke Ravi's heart.
"Oww… ow- hurts!" (Y/n) could barely get the words out with how her teeth were scraping together and how her jaw was tensing and starting to lock in place and it made another whimper vibrate against the back of her throat.
His hands moved to hold her thighs and he applied a little pressure, pushing her legs down on top of his. Her legs started to thrash on his lap like she was being electrocuted and Ravi knew instantly that it was her legs that were causing the pain. Seizures like this felt like she had nails circulating through her blood or as if she was being stabbed. Her body was being fried and her legs were bashing up and down on Ravi's lap.
She wanted to pull her legs off of him before she hurt him, but Ravi continued to glide his hands up and down her thighs. Although he stopped and settled for squeezing her thighs when he realised (Y/n)'s arms were tensing up and she couldn't let go of his wrists.
"It won't last long, sweetheart."
They both knew Ravi was wishing rather than making a conclusive statement, but his words were based on belief. He hoped it wouldn't last long, this kind didn't usually go for longer than two minutes which was brief considering some of the worse seizures he had witnessed her having. And at least (Y/n) was still conscious during this one.
He tried to roam his hands in circles on her upper thighs, trying not to move his arms too much since (Y/n) was still clinging to his wrists and her arms had locked up. He didn't want to cause her any pain, he only wanted to comfort her.
He could feel (Y/n)'s ankles beginning to bash into his hips and her boots were clashing against his hips, but he remained smiling and tried to tense up and stay still. They were sitting like this to make it easier for (Y/n) and to try and comfort her, Ravi wasn't worried about a few little bruises or aches he might receive from sitting like this.
"It's okay," He murmured while he stretched his palms out and pressed them down into (Y/n)'s thighs a bit more, applying more pressure to keep her legs stable on his thighs.
Ravi strained for a moment or two, trying to work out what (Y/n) was trying to mutter to him before he realised she was saying 'dizzy'. And as if on cue, her head lowered down more until her shoulders and upper body were tilting forward towards him.
He couldn't be sure whether she was leaning forwards on purpose or if she was losing her sense of balance and control due to the seizure. Either way, it didn't matter.
A soft "Come here," left his lips as he shuffled closer until her thighs were near his hips and they were close enough for their chests to be touching.
He let her head drop down onto his shoulder and he tensed his chest so he was holding her up, almost as if they were hugging. His right hand let go of (Y/n)'s thigh and he carefully wriggled his wrist out of her grip so he could start gliding his hand up and down her back.
It was comforting to Ravi to perch his chin on (Y/n)'s shoulder while he took slow breaths to get her to do to same. And he tried to glance down at the watch strapped to his wrist so he could guess how long she had been like this. Nearly two minutes, not too bad considering he could feel her legs slowing down to light jerks and shudders on his thigh.
"There we go… you feeling alright?"
Ravi's voice was delicate and he turned his head to the left just a little so he could press a kiss to (Y/n)'s rather flushed skin.
He could feel her temple shaking against his shoulder which felt oddly like she was nodding into his skin but her grip on his left hand was finally loosening and relaxing. He knew he would have a few indents and nail marks on his wrists, but he didn't care. As long as (Y/n) was alright.
(Y/n) couldn't quite manage an answer, but she made a strange humming noise into Ravi's chest. It was hard to get her eyes to open, but she felt like she was slowly beginning to melt, to thaw out and loosen and become herself again.
"Hey, I've been looking for… you both look like you're meditating." Chimney's hands moved to grasp his hips as he stood in the doorway to the locker room with a look of confusion on his face.
He had heard Buck say that Ravi had arrived for the night shift, but he hadn't seen him yet. And here the pair of them were, sat hugging on the floor like this was some kind of strange meditation or yoga session. And Chimney knew that neither of those things were the couple's idea of fun.
"Can you get Bobby, she's just had a seizure."
Chimney's face fell completely and he waved his hand out, calling for Bobby before he stepped forward and crouched down beside the couple.
They were both sure that (Y/n) tried to utter "I'm fine," but it came out strained and her voice was hoarse. No indicator that she was indeed okay after the seizure she'd just had.
"Sure you are."
(Y/n) wanted to huff and roll her eyes at Chimney's sarcasm, but she couldn't find the willpower. It was hard enough to move her right hand and flop it down on Ravi's shoulder. She flexed her fingers and scrunched them in his shirt while she pushed all of her energy into lifting her head from his shoulder so she could try and sit up.
He knew what she was doing because he kissed her cheek before he leaned forwards and started to tilt her back. He helped her sit up and carefully pulled away until (Y/n) was sitting up on her own again.
Her legs were still strewn across Ravi's thighs and her hand remained on his shoulder, but she managed to tilt her head to the right to look at Chimney.
"Can I?" It wasn't very clear what he was trying to do, but (Y/n) gathered he wanted to assess her to make sure that she was coherent and not about to suffer another seizure.
She hummed, about to close her eyes until he carefully pulled her eyelid back and swiped his pen light across her pupils to check for dilation. He checked her pulse and tried to check for reflexes, all of which were steadily coming back under (Y/n)'s control again.
"You seem okay, how'd you feel?"
"Oddly better." Her voice was scratchy but she managed a smile as she tilted her head back until she was leaning against the wall.
It was normal for her to feel relieved and more relaxed after a seizure, and she had been waiting for this one to happen. As long as another one wasn't on the horizon, (Y/n) knew she would be fine.
"Um, what are we all doing in here?" Bobby's hand gripped the door frame and his free hand moved to his hip. One leg crossed over the other and he looked down at his team with raised brows, waiting patiently to be told why they looked like they were in a little prayer circle and why he had been called over.
"(Y/n)'s had a seizure, but looks like it's all over now."
"Then I think that's the end of your shift. Do you need anything?" Bobby knew better than to ask if (Y/n) needed to go to hospital. If she had been checked over by Chimney and both he and Ravi were calm and (Y/n) was responsive, the hospital wasn't necessary. This was something (Y/n) had to live with and clearly this seizure hadn't been a bad or overpowering one.
"No, I- I can stay-"
"No you can't." It was Ravi who disagreed this time and the look on his face was a damning one.
His brows furrowed down and his lips scrunched up as he angled his head to one side like he and (Y/n) were having a silent debate without words. He wouldn't advise her staying and he certainly didn't want her to try and go out on any calls. She had two hours left of her shift, she could head home now rather than wait here trying to recover.
It wouldn't do any good for (Y/n) to stay after she had just had a seizure, it might not have been a full scale one but one was enough to disorientate her. Staying might put her at risk.
(Y/n) couldn't keep Ravi's gaze and when she tried to look up at Bobby, he had that stern expression that told her bargaining with him wasn't going to be an option. If she had half a shift or longer, he might let her wait around and see how she felt, but two hours wasn't worth it. She should go home and rest.
"You're going home."
Reaching up, Ravi gently took her hands and lowered them down to rest on her thighs instead. His thumbs started to glide over the back of her hands but curiosity got the better of him when he watched a grin spread across (Y/n)'s lips. Her eyes closed for a moment and a chuckle escaped her lips until he squeezed and tugged on her hands.
"What's so funny?"
"I can go home?" (Y/n) looked between him and Bobby for confirmation and when Bobby nodded with a look of confusion, (Y/n) chuckled again. "You know I drove here, right?"
They weren't willing to let her stay on shift for another few hours, but they were eager for her to go home. Clearly they forgot that (Y/n) drove. Driving right after a seizure wasn't something she did very often. She was lucky she was still allowed to drive, because her seizures were usually short and infrequent she got away with keeping her licence as long as she took regular supervisions and got checked every year.
"Yeah, I don't think that's happening." Chimney shook his head and patted (Y/n)'s thigh before he pushed up to his feet. None of them would let her leave if she was going to go and drive herself home.
"Wait here for an hour and if you're alright, you get checked out again before you drive home. Or we find someone to give you a lift."
Bobby's words sounded reasonable. Giving (Y/n) an hour for her body to settle and adjust would be enough time to tell whether she felt like another seizure was oncoming or if she would be okay to head home. She would be back to her usual self after an hour anyway, hopefully.
And (Y/n) didn't want to put anybody out and get a ride home. Not when the only people on her shift lived out of her range and she wouldn't be a burden getting them to go out of their way to take her home. And it wasn't exactly ideal if Buck or Ravi left shift for a while to take her home and then come back again.
When (Y/n) nodded, Bobby muttered a small "Okay," and left them to it. He knew Ravi would look after (Y/n) and make sure she was alright until the bell went and they had to go on a call. And even then, someone would be around the station to be with her and check she was alright.
"Wanna try getting up?"
With a nod, (Y/n) slowly looped her arms around the back of Ravi's neck and heaved her numb legs off his thighs. It was comforting to feel his hands gripping her hips and she was grateful that Ravi took her weight and helped lift her up until she was back on her feet.
She didn't feel as wobbly or shaky as she thought she would which was a relief, but she kept her arms locked around Ravi and tilted her chest against his. Just for safety precautions.
"Will you be alright if you go home?"
(Y/n) shook her head with a smile. "I'll go to Maddie's, she isn't at work." She knew her big sister would never grumble at a surprise visit and she would let (Y/n) stay over. Especially if she said she didn't fancy being home alone after some minimal seizure activity.
Tilting her head up, (Y/n) nudged her nose against Ravi's, watching that sweet smile spread across his lips which she then claimed for herself and captured him in a kiss. A small "Thank you," muttered from her lips into his mouth which made his lips morph into an even wider smile, depsite their kiss.
He made moments like these bearable and stopped her from panicking when seizures and bad things like this happened.
What would she do without him?
***
Driving at night was something (Y/n) was used to. It wasn't something she particularly enjoyed, unless she was driving alongside the beach or the sea and could hear the shallow waves lapping at the sand. And the sight of the moonlight and illuminations streaking and shining down on the sea was calming. But she couldn't always look at the sea or her surroundings when she was driving and had to concentrate.
Driving home from the fire station like this was a habit, it was a drive that (Y/n) could do automatically like she was running on autopilot.
Her elbow rested on the door near the base of the window and her hand tangled in her hair as she kept her eyes on the road that was mostly quiet save the odd car in front and a few behind. She could see the headlights blinking in her rear view mirror.
(Y/n)'s head started to nod along with the CD playing and it brought a smile to her lips. It was a Queen CD, Ravi put it in there the other day when they went out. She could still see his head bopping along to the music and see him hitting the dashboard out the corner of her eye pretending to play the drums. He was a crazy soul when he wanted to be, and she loved him for it.
She hoped Maddie wouldn't mind her coming by, her sister was always happy to see her and have a movie night together, and Jee would be safely tucked away in bed by now. It would just be the two sisters together when (Y/n) got there.
It was why (Y/n) was trying to focus or else if she let her mind wander she would take the wrong exit and head back to her and Ravi's place, not her sisters.
A blazing car horn caused (Y/n)'s hand to drop from her hair and latch back around the wheel with a sense of uncertainty. Her frame went rigid and she looked between her mirrors, trying to figure out who was hitting the horn and if they were aiming it at her or not.
It was the car behind, and at first (Y/n) couldn't see why he was so disgruntled. She thought for a few seconds that he was hitting the horn repeatedly at her and it made her shrink back in her seat and look around. She was going the speed limit, she wasn't swerving out the lane or blocking an exit and she had all her lights on.
Then she saw it.
A speeding car, swerving onto the wrong side of the road to try and overtake the car behind (Y/n). The car was weaving close to the car behind and almost hit it twice like they were dodgems on a track.
Watching the scene from her mirrors made (Y/n) cower in her seat and the loud music faded into nothing but background static as she tried to figure out what she was meant to do in this situation. She could speed up a little, give the car room to swerve into the lane and get behind her. Or she could wait and slow down to let him overtake her.
She would rather have that car behind her so if it crashed, it wouldn't cause her to hit the brakes hard or risk a collision. But she had a funny feeling that the car was going to overtake her as it was exceeding the speed limit which (Y/n) was doing spot on.
She tried to take her foot off the gas and slow herself down but shockwaves started to run through her skin when another horn blared through the air and overpowered the music in her car.
An oncoming car on the other side of the road.
While the presumably drunk driver was still on the wrong side of the road, now attempting to overtake (Y/n).
There was nothing that (Y/n) could do with the split second timing that she had. Her foot hovered and tried to press down on the break, she needed to give him room to swerve, but he seemed to accelerate and his timing was impaired just like his senses. He didn't swerve in time.
Once the oncoming car hit him head on, he rebounded into (Y/n), creating a real life version of dodgems that sent (Y/n)'s wheels spinning and had her doing a full spin in the centre of the road.
It felt like her car hit five others in the space of a second. She kept rebounding and whacking and bouncing like a pinball.
Horrific screams left her lips, her fingers clenched around the steering wheel and her shoulders braced back in the chair to try and mould herself in place and lessen the blows. But she couldn't stop from moving. The seatbelt constricted but it didn't stop her from being jostled left to right. It didn't stop her knees from bashing into the door and the gear console. It didn't prevent the bonnet from being crumpled and crushing down on her ankles.
And nothing prevented (Y/n)'s head from colliding so harshly with the window on her right that the glass fractured and the blow knocked out each of her senses.
The car finally came to a stop in the centre of the road, but (Y/n) didn't. While the car remained motionless for the first time in minutes, (Y/n)'s body started to writhe and shake and her head rebounded between the window and the headrest.
She was seizing.
***
Ravi fiddled with the thick padded gloves until they were comfortably settled over his fingers and pulled right down to his wrists. He had seen the mess as they pulled up as close to the collision as they could get. He knew the car engines would be overheating and there would be chunks of metal and broken glass around. The last thing he needed was a cut or a burn.
He debated reaching for his helmet, but no engines were on fire and each of the four cars involved were all the right side up and fairly accessible. He wouldn't have to do any army crawls or dangerous manoeuvres to get to the casualties. His helmet wouldn't be necessary right now.
It was relieving to feel the cool night breeze wash over his frame that would otherwise be sweating in his overalls and padded jacket. At least without his helmet his head and hair were free from constraints and he wouldn't be sweating as much.
He couldn't abide by his hair going crinkly and his curls sticking to his temple and the feeling of sweat running down the back of his neck made Ravi feel awful.
He looked around as he climbed out of the truck, his eyes searching for Buck who he usually got paired up with when they were on the same shifts. It was fun. Ravi didn't have any siblings so (Y/n)'s big brother had become a brother to Ravi to, and they could have banter and jokes when they worked together, as well as being serious when they needed to be.
There looked to be quite a mess of cars here, four mangled cars split around the road in odd positions like a game of botcha. Ravi opened one of the compartments to the truck and grabbed the wrench, knowing Buck would aim for the jaws. They might have to cut a few people free tonight.
"Cap, where do we start? The jeep's empty, the guy got himself out and called 911." Eddie waved his hand to the jeep that was wrecked on the hard shoulder.
The driver had gotten himself out with minimal injuries, he had been the one to make the call. That meant one less car to evacuate and one less casualty to transport and give their time to.
"Hen, Chim, Eddie spread out we need a medic at each car."
They all looked to the cars like they were silently debating which one they wanted to take, but one car caught Chimney's attention and made his blood run cold. He turned, hurriedly scanning his eyes around his team to find that Buck was thankfully oblivious, trying to find something in the truck.
But Ravi saw.
Ravi's shoulders slumped and his fingers began to twitch and clench around the metal wrench he was holding when his eyes locked on one car in particular. The car he was in almost every other day. The car he had seen only an hour ago when (Y/n) left the station.
A gaunt look took over Ravi's face as his jaw wrangled loose and his plump lips parted. Sorrow fuelled his eyes and made his blood heat up like molten lava running through his veins.
"(Y/n)!" Her name tore from his lips in a horrid screech and his boots were hitting the tarmac before he thought about what he was doing.
He could barely breathe. His body was shuddering and his lungs felt like they were shrivelling up like prunes in his chest.
That was (Y/n)'s car. She was supposed to be at Maddie's house. She was supposed to be there already, not here in the middle of a crash. She wasn't supposed to be hurt. Ravi wasn't meant to find her like this and have his girlfriend in the middle of a collision with untold injuries.
She was meant to be safe.
Her name tore from his lips again but it faded into a scream when arms bound around his chest. Hands clutched at him, arms pinned against his frame and a chest pressed into his back as the person tried to twist him to the side. They were trying to stop him from finding (Y/n). She needed him. He was supposed to help her, they couldn't prevent him from helping his girlfriend.
"Ravi-"
"No! No let me go!" His elbows bashed into Chimney's chest and abdomen until the older man finally unleashed him and let him go. He needed to get to her.
The screams tearing past Ravi's lips alerted Buck who went as pale as a sheet of paper and his fingers started to turn numb as they tightened around the pair of jaws in his hand. He was no longer intent on getting the driver and passenger out of the cherry red mini to his left. As soon as he realised his little sister's car was dead ahead, that was where Buck was aiming for.
The wrench in Ravi's hand felt like a bar of gold weighing him down and he was so tempted to smash it into the window and break the glass to release his frustrations and his girlfriend.
But he restrained himself, his chest quaked with each deep breath he forced himself to take and he wrangled the wrench in between the door and the car frame. It didn't take much to bust open the dented door but a whimper tore past his lips when he looked inside.
The window was broken, tiny pieces of glass littered the floor and (Y/n)'s lap. Huge cracks and splinters were jagged through the window and streaks of blood were soaked into the cracks. (Y/n)'s head had rebounded off this window.
"Oh God." splutters tore past Ravi's lips as he crouched down so he could lean into the car.
The wrench dropped to the floor and his trembling, cold hands reached out until he was carefully cupping (Y/n)'s neck. He could feel a dull ache in his shoulders that were pushing into the roof of the car to stabilise himself and his knees pulsed when they imbedded in the side of the chair, but none of it mattered.
All that mattered was his girlfriend. She had a large gash to the side of her temple, broken skin, blood dried and still soaking down her face and into her hair.
"(Y/n)… baby…" He could see his words were falling on deaf ears and it made tears well up in his eyes and threaten to fall down his features.
Ravi shuddered when a horrible creaking echoed through the car and he saw Buck forcing open the passenger door so he could wriggle into the passenger seat and reach out for his sister. He was trembling too as he looked down at (Y/n), taking note of all the blood coating her frame and splattered around the car like a murder scene.
"Shit, oh shit (Y/n)!"
Ravi did his best not to burst into fits of tears and to steel his hands to stop them from trembling and shaking (Y/n)'s head from side to side. That wouldn't do her any good if she already had neck or spinal injuries.
His fingers pressed into her neck and he tried to close his eyes to count her pulse and see whether it was too fast or too slow. He didn't like how low and thready her pulse had become.
When he opened his eyes, he tried to look her up and down but Ravi became fixated on the flood trickling down from (Y/n)'s nose and the light coating on her lips. He could see that Buck was trying to reach out for (Y/n)'s arms and legs, trying to check and feel for any injuries.
A light frown set into Ravi's already distressed features and his left hand stayed cupping (Y/n)'s neck, keeping her head in place while he moved his right hand up towards his lips. He bit into the end of his glove and tore it from his hand, spitting it to the floor before he moved his trembling fingers to press against (Y/n)'s lips.
He was as careful as he could be when he parted her lips and tried to loosen her jaw to peer into her mouth.
He shuddered, feeling Buck's hand swat at his arm as a shaky "What?" was whispered towards him. He wanted to know what Ravi was doing, what he was looking for and trying to check by peering into (Y/n)'s mouth.
"S-she's aspirated… I think she's had a seizure."
Ravi could see blood in her mouth and the fact that it was coming from her nose- or had been dribbling from her nose at some point- indicated she had a nosebleed and had started to inhale and choke on the blood. That meant she could have blood in her lungs which accounted for the reason why she was wheezing through each shallow breath she took.
It looked like she had been seizing. If she seized she could well have choked, swallowed and aspirated on the blood. And it would account for the way she was very subtly jittering in her seat.
"We need to get her out. I need the gurney!"
The moment Eddie was at his side with the gurney and a medic bag, Ravi was reaching out for it. This was his case, his girlfriend, therefore he wasn't moving. He didn't care if he wasn't a medic, he was still trained and he knew what he was doing. (Y/n) would want Ravi to be the one to look after her.
He snatched the neck brace Eddie held out towards him and clipped it around her neck, despite knowing that (Y/n) wouldn't like it. But Ravi didn't oppose to Eddie crouching down near the footwell and prodding the end of a needle into (Y/n)'s leg to test for nerve response. If they suspected paralysis they would have to take a different approach. But her knees jerked and her feet twitched, she had responses and no apparent damage. Small mercies.
Ravi shone a light across her pupils like how Chimney had done earlier in the evening, but he couldn't gain any response or constriction. She was unresponsive. He checked her blood pressure but it was dropping lower by the second which could indicate an internal bleed somewhere that was taking her blood supply.
Turning to the side, Ravi reached out for an IV bag and he tossed it at Buck before he found a needle and some medical stickers.
It didn't take Ravi long to swab the crease of (Y/n)'s left elbow, insert the cannula and tape it in place. Which allowed for Buck to hook up the IV line and keep hold of the saline bag so it didn't get popped or squashed when they would move (Y/n).
"Okay baby, we're getting you out now." Ravi wrangled with the seatbelt to get it from cutting into (Y/n)'s frame and he switched from leaning in front of her to leaning behind her.
His hands slipped beneath her arms while Buck leaned over the console to keep her head in place, and Eddie helped to reach for her legs.
It took a minute for the three of them to ease (Y/n) out the car between them and Buck backed out the passenger seat while Ravi and Eddie got her onto the gurney.
"Ankle looks fractured or broken, abdomen is tender. She'll need scans and X-rays once we get to the hospital." Eddie tried to be careful with his choice of words, he didn't want to panic or upset either Ravi or Buck right now when they were both panicked.
But he could tell (Y/n)'s left ankle was definitely out of place and her abdomen and stomach were tender and slightly squishy which could indicate internal bleeding or a rupture. They would have to get immediate scans once she got to the hospital so they knew what action to take.
"She's still breathing shallow." Ravi hovered his palm over the top of (Y/n)'s chest but his teeth sank down into his lower lip as they began to move the gurney. He didn't like the sound of (Y/n)'s breathing or the fear in his gut that told him she might stop breathing at any given point.
"Get in, Hen's driving and we'll meet you there once another team gets here." Buck's voice shook and the look in his eyes was maddening. He wasn't happy about waiting behind, but he wasn't a medic like Eddie and he knew his best friend was going to take care of his sister. And he knew that Ravi got priority, he was the one who needed to travel with (Y/n) to the hospital right now.
"(Y/n), can you hear me?" Eddie hung the IV bag out the way while he leaned down towards (Y/n) and tried lifting her eyelid to check for any response.
For a moment, they both thought she might just be coming round. Her head moved. Her shoulders quaked and a muffled sound parted her bloodied lips.
It was enough to get Ravi's hopes up and made his heart soar up into his throat. His wide eyes looked from Eddie down to (Y/n) and he ripped his other glove off to try and card his fingers through her tangled hair matted with splotches of blood.
He reached his free hand down to take (Y/n)'s hand and he plonked himself down in the seat to stop his knees from shaking.
"Baby… baby are you with me? We're gonna look after you, it's okay."
He squeezed her hand, sitting on the edge of his seat while Eddie tried to get her ankle into a splint. But Ravi froze when another sound murmured past her lips, but it wasn't a flurry of words or names or whimpers.
It was a gurgling sound.
Blood and spit froffed past (Y/n)'s lips before a horrible round of trembling set in and had her jostling from left to right on the gurney. Her limbs went taut and started to bash into the gurney and her head began to shake and smash down like invisible forces were crushing and shaking her.
She was having another seizure.
Ravi jumped back up from his seat, almost bashing his head into the top of the ambulance before he leaned over (Y/n) and let go of her hand. He went back to cupping her jaw and tried to angle her head in his direction, despite the tremors and writhing of her head from left to right.
"Stop the seizure! Make it stop or she'll choke, s-she'll drown in blood." Desperation clawed at Ravi's voice as his pleading, watering eyes looked over at Eddie.
If they didn't stop the seizure she would continue to froff and bubble spit and it was going to make her choke on the blood already in her airways and mouth. And Ravi couldn't sit and watch her choke. He couldn't see (Y/n) drown.
He'd had more than his fair share of drowning victims. Ravi pulled people out the sea. He dragged a child from a sinking car. He made the wrong decision and dove back for the father instead of trying to find the second child. He let that child drown and saved the man who put them all in that water.
He wouldn't watch a loved one start to drown too. He had to do something. (Y/n) was barely breathing and she was starting to grog and cough and splutter blood and spit, they had to do something.
Eddie felt himself shuddering almost the same as (Y/n) at the utter desperation that clawed its way into Ravi's voice. He leant down and found the suction tube beneath the gurney, switching it on before he held it out.
"Suction the blood, clear the airways while I push diazepam." Eddie couldn't do both things at once, he couldn't suction and try and give medication to stop the seizing.
Ravi hated the sounds (Y/n) made when he worked the thin plastic tube past her lips and into her airways. He hated the sound of the blood being vacuumed through the tube or the sight of dark red, blushing pink and bubbling white liquids being removed from her lungs and threading through the plastic tube. But it had to be done, he had to get her breathing properly.
His eyes briefly tore from (Y/n)'s lips and trembling head to look across at Eddie who was injecting a large amount of diazepam into the IV line so it got straight into her bloodstream.
When the shaking subsided and Ravi guessed he'd gotten all the fluids from her lungs, he switched the suction for an oxygen mask.
"We should have taken her home." Ravi's voice was so quiet that Eddie almost missed them, but he felt his stomach tensing and twisting as he silently agreed.
If one of them dropped (Y/n) home or at Maddie's, she wouldn't have been caught up in this mess. She wouldn't have been involved in any collision or suffering any further seizures if they took her home. But what good did dwelling on that do when they couldn't change any of it?
"We've got her back, we'll take care of her that's all that matters now."
(Y/n) was back in their grasp, she was being cared for by them and they were getting her to the hospital to get looked after. The what ifs and the regrets meant nothing now, all that mattered was getting (Y/n) looked after and making sure that nothing else happened to her.
Ravi bent forward to comb his shaking fingers through her hair and he pressed a soft kiss to her temple when the shaking began to subside. "You're gonna be okay."
He had to believe his words, he wouldn't know what to do with himself if they turned out to be false.
alone with you, does that makes sense? - ravi singh x reader
a/n: woohoo new ravi fic my bf 💖💖 wc: 1k masterlist
you stumbled into the dimly lit kitchen in the middle of the night. rubbing the sleep out of your eyes, you reached for a glass and began to fill it up as you hummed to yourself. the only thing on your mind was your bed, and how dry your mouth felt.
as you sipped on your water, the doorbell rang.
you frowned to yourself, wondering who would be outside in the dead of night while it was raining.
you set down your glass and hesitantly walked to the door, and another knock came, more urgent this time. you cracked the door open the slightest bit, only to see your boyfriend, with droplets of rain on his jumper and wet hair.
“ravi?” the sleep left your body in an instant, “what the… are you mental?” you said as you opened the door wider, partially sighing in relief as it was just him, not an axe murderer or something of the sort.
“possibly.” he breathed out as he saw you, wiping a water droplet off his cheek.
“oh my gosh, get inside — it’s freezing!” you exclaimed as you ushered him inside.
you crossed your arms over your chest, feeling the cold seeping through the fabric of your pajamas as he stepped in and took off his shoes.
“what are you doing here? it’s the middle of the night.” to say you were beyond confused was an understatement.
“i couldn’t sleep.” he shrugged, like that answered your question perfectly.
“so you just came to my house?”
“yes?…” he paused, taking in your confused and honestly unimpressed look. ”well, i did call you multiple times — and i texted! so i didn’t just come to your house.”
you sighed, knowing your phone was almost always on do not disturb. “i…” you paused, eyeing his figure as he ran a hand through his soaked hair. “well… do you need anything? i can make you tea if you’d like?”
“i’m alright, thankyou.” a grin found his face, and he slightly lolled his head to the side. “would it be too cheesy to say i just need you?”
your cheeks flushed, “yes. it would be.”
“perfect.“ he flashed you a toothy grin, “i just ne-“
“stop it,” you cut him off with a sleepy laugh, your voice still tired, “you’re so unbelievable.”
“and you’re way too welcoming.” he said as he took a step closer. “do you treat everyone this nicely, or am i just special?”
you snorted, “you’re definitely special in the head, i’ll tell you that much.”
he seemed to have gotten his answer from the way your cheeks flushed even more as he got closer, “alright, fair.” he sent you a boyish grin, “i’ll take it.”
you laughed before hitting his shoulder and said, “let’s go to my room, let me just get my water.”
you heard him mutter something along the lines of, “wow, take me out to dinner first.”
shaking your head with a smile, you grabbed your glass and then he followed you up the stairs.
—
once inside your room, you tossed him a towel from your dresser. “here, dry off before you catch a cold.”
he accepted the towel with a smirk. “are you going to tuck me in, too?”
you rolled your eyes, but it was impossible for you to wipe the smile off your face. “only if you behave.”
he dried his hair, making it stand up messily before he ran his fingers through it. it somehow just made him look even more endearing. “i always behave,” he said, though his smile told you otherwise.
“sure you do.” you replied, pulling the covers back on your bed and climbing in. “now, get in here before you freeze to death.”
“yes, ma’am,” he teased, but there was a softness in his eyes as he joined you under the blankets.
the warmth of his body next to yours was comforting, and you couldn’t help but snuggle closer, resting your head on his shoulder. “better?”
“much better,” he murmured, wrapping an arm around you. “listen,” he hesitated, “im sorry for showing up so randomly, i had a bad day and just…” he trailed off, trying to find the right way to put it, “i wasn’t lying when i said just needed you.”
you tilted your head to look up at him, your heart swelling at the tenderness in his gaze. your brows furrowed and your chest felt constricted at the thought of him being anything other than happy.
“ravi, i’m here for you, always.” you moved to press a gentle kiss on his lips, and his hand came up to caress your cheek.
when you pulled back, you lay your head back on his chest. “i’m really sorry your day was horrible.” you mumbled.
“it’s fine, don’t worry about it, sweetheart.” his tone was a lot softer now, more vulnerable. “i mean, i have my ridiculously amazing girlfriend in my arms now, i couldn’t ask for anything more.”
you lifted your head again, amused at his ability to slip back into his wits so easily. “you’re really something, you know that?”
he chuckled softly, pressing a kiss to your forehead. “yeah, something special in the head, right?”
“yes,” you laughed quietly, “but not only that. i mean, you’re sort of ridiculously amazing too.”
he gasped dramatically, feigning shock, “was that a compliment i heard?”
“i take it back.”
“so it was a compliment.” it was almost impossible for his smile to get any wider, “don’t get all soft on me now, love.” he patted your head, but there wasn’t a single bone in your body that felt the need to make a snappy retort back.
“sure, whatever helps you sleep at night.” you said as you snuggled in closer to his side.
“but you help me sleep at night.”
you raised your eyebrows, even though he couldn’t see it. “then why aren’t you sleep?”
when he didn’t respond, you lifted your head up to find him closing his eyes, with his lips twitching as he tried to bite back a laugh.
“you’re such an idiot.” you muttered under your breath with a laugh as you put your head back down, and ravi wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you in closer.
you smiled, feeling a warmth spread through you that had nothing to do with the blankets.
you could hear his steady heartbeat as your breaths started to even out, and he traced silent “i love you”s and hearts on your skin, which had you almost asleep within minutes.
“i love you too,” you mumbled into his chest without thinking twice, and sleep washed over you before you could feel the kiss ravi pressed on the top of your head.
soon enough, the rain pattering on the window and soft breaths the only sounds that could be heard.
Birthday Girl
Pairing: F!Reader x Kim Wonshik (Ravi from Vixx)
WC: 0.6k
Rating: M
Genre: Fluff + Smut
@sadfragilegirl requested a Ravi x Reader oneshot. I hope you like it! This was difficult to write and thus it is shorter than I wanted, since I am new to VIXX and this was my first attempt at writing 'x Reader'. I hope I did okay:) Enjoy! <3
You opened your eyes to the welcome sight of your boyfriend bringing you breakfast in bed.
“Good morning, Jagiya!”
Twisting in the sheets, you greeted him with a smile. “Good morning!”
“Happy birthday,” your boyfriend placed a sweet kiss on your forehead as he fluffed up your pillows.
He lay beside you while you ate, telling you about his plans for your special day. He had the whole day off and was focused on making it memorable for you.
Once you were dressed and ready for the day, the two of you headed out of your apartment to begin your adventure.
You began with a visit to your favourite coffee shop, your boyfriend ordering his usual iced coffee and you went for your favourite iced mocha.
Coffees in hand, you linked your fingers together with your boyfriend and swung them happily as you walked down the street together.
Window shopping was something you liked to do as you strolled the avenues in your city’s downtown area, and anything you did was automatically better when your loved ones joined you.
“Ravi-ah, look at that!” You pointed to a pretty dress in the window of one of your favourite shops.
The morning was spent window shopping and just enjoying one another’s company. The sun was warm but not hot, you were with the love of your life, and you had iced coffee. It was shaping up to be a perfect day.
~~~~~
As soon as you returned from your picnic dinner, Ravi kissed you passionately, backing you up until your back met the wall.
You moaned into his mouth, wrapping your arms around his shoulders and running your fingers through his hair.
He hooked his hands under your thighs and carried you to your bedroom, kissing your neck until you shivered with pleasure.
You pulled his shirt over his head, tracing your fingers over his tattoos until he returned the favour and pulled your shirt over your head. He groaned appreciatively at the sight of your lacey new bra and ran his tongue over your nipples through the fabric, perking them up.
“Wonshik, I need more,” you groaned, unbuttoning both pairs of pants.
He pulled your pants and underwear off with a wink, kissing his way up your thighs to your centre.
Little sparks of pleasure spread though your body as he applied his talented rapping tongue to your clit, dexterously working you up to orgasm. The sight of him between your legs, skin glowing in the soft light of your room, his tattoos rippling over his skin as he moved sent you over the edge, crying out his name.
“I love you,” he pecked your forehead.
“I love you too, Wonshik.” You wrapped your legs around his waist as he pushed in, enjoying the feel of being so intimate with your lover.
You licked your way down his neck and jaw, his familiar scent filling your senses as he began a slow, sensual rhythm.
“You’re so beautiful.” he told you.
“So are you,” you returned, smiling up at him. “I love you.”
“I love you, Y/N.” He brushed a strand of hair from your face, speeding up his thrusts a little as you commanded.
His hand came up to circle your nipples as he licked and nipped a line down your neck, biting softly at your ear.
The tightening in your core continued. “Ravi, I’m close.”
His finger trailed down your torso to rub at your clit, knowing just how to help you climax.
“Wonshik!” Your orgasm triggered his and you lay there, panting and happy.
“Happy birthday, Y/N-ah,” he kissed you softly, wrapping you in his big arms, safe and loved.

Your fingers dug into Buck’s turn out. Your shaking and gasping cries merged with his screams, desperate prayers vibrating against his arm.
His throat hurt. It was raw and felt like it was bleeding, a metallic taste building up on his tongue. But he couldn’t bring himself to care.
This couldn’t be it. This can’t be happening. Bobby’s not supposed to die.
No! No… Bobby was fine. He had been right behind Buck as they were leaving. He made it out.
He was walking and talking, barking out orders like it was breathing.
Bobby was breathing.
Now… Now he was what?
Now he was pacing around a room, alone. Professing his love to Athena and pleading with her to believe he didn’t want this. He was using every ounce of his strength to fight away any doubt in her heart. He was apologizing. Buck could still hear how he apologized to you as you were drug away from your attempts to pry the door open.
Now he was crawling on the floor, his organs beginning to fail as he coughed up blood – red splatters decorating the ash covered floor. He was sweating, body feverish as his immune system kept trying to save him.
But nothing can save him…
Now he’s dying. Praying on his knees until blood filled his mouth like a fatal elixir, a final communion. Blood was coating his tongue and teeth, staining his lips crimson as his head fell to the table and his chest slowed to a stop.
Now he was in a body bag… and Buck-
– jolted awake, a raw cry straining his vocal cords as he gripped the duvet in his lap.
“Buck? Buck! Evan!” He knew that voice – that soft, gentle voice. “Hey, hey, baby it’s okay. It’s okay. I’m here. You’re safe.”
Gentle and warm hands cradled his face, tilting it up as thumbs wiped the tears away. He can barely make out anything through the tears and the panic scrambling his brain.
But those eyes… He knows those eyes. They’re safe. They’re home.
They’re you.
His entire body was shaking. Sweat dripped down his back, leaving goosebumps as the AC cooled his hot skin. Tears shone on his face in the dim lamplight, more spilling over his lash line to pool on your thumbs. His chest ached, it felt like he was trying suck in air from an empty oxygen tank.
“Breathe, Ev’. Breathe for me.”
He hit his chest to communicate that he was trying. Each gulp of air wheezed into his windpipe, barely giving him enough to speak. “I-I can’t…”
You nodded, moving his arms around you and pressing his hands flat against your back. “You can. You just gotta follow me, baby.”
He tried, he really tried. But his chest felt too tight, air snagged in his throat, scraping along what felt like open wounds lining his esophagus. All before getting forced out in broken, strangled sobs.
You only smiled softly at him, the expression warm and encouraging. Your thumbs brushed his cheeks gently, being careful not to rub his cheeks raw as your exhales cooled them. His hands were desperate and hard on your back, gripping at your sleep shirt as he tried to follow your breathing.
Neither of you knew how long it took before his chest expanded fully again. A full breath of air, accented by the scent of your shampoo, filled his lungs. He swallowed, nodding against you as he began to calm down.
You tilted your head, the movement small as you pushed his curl back from his damp forehead. There was no doubt this panic attack was the result of a nightmare. They weren’t uncommon in this line of work, but only a few brought on panic attacks.
Your hand rested at the back of his head, the other gently resting on the side of his neck. “What happened, Buck? What did you see?”
The question made his throat cinch up again, fresh waves of tears falling down his cheeks. He opened his mouth and the words tumbled out in broken, sob-ridden babbles.
You gently shushed him after a few moments, soothing the ache with the tender caress of your hands carding through his hair. His tears are hot against your skin as you tilted his chin up with your thumb. “Sweetheart, I need you to slow down.”
You weren’t upset with him, or frustrated in the slightest. If anything… you were scared and just wanted to help.
Buck swallowed, squeezing his eyes shut in an attempt to control himself. You pressed your lips to his head and gently rocked you both. It was a little awkward in this position, but all you cared about was making sure he was okay.
You pulled back to look at him, your hand moving back to his cheek to brush away the tears.
His eyes remained downcast, staring at where your knees pressed into his thighs. He gripped your shirt again as a soft cry fell from his lips.
“The lab…”
He felt you tense at the words. Your hands paused in their movements just long enough for him to catch it before you went right back to soothing him.
A pang of guilt hit deep in his heart.
“We-we had just got Hen and Chimney out, and everything was fine. But as I turned to Cap… he-” Buck bit his quivering lip, his eyes remaining fixated on your point of contact, not wanting to see the heartbreak in your eyes as he told you again what had happened in the damned lab. He hated to make you relive it, relive probably the worst day of your life. He wanted to take it back, take all of it back… but he kept going, knowing you wouldn’t just let him go back to sleep.
“He locked himself in… the hose line to his tank was torn in the explosion, he had been sick the whole time and no one knew. He sacrificed himself for Chimney… he’s gone.”
His voice cracked, sobs sending his trembling frame into your lap. Apologies tumbled past his lips and rumbled against your sternum.
Your heart broke, frame rattling with the devastating cries of your boyfriend. You planted kisses on his head and rubbed his back. “Oh Evan, honey… it’s okay.”
“No, it’s not! He’s gone!” He pulled back swiftly, nearly headbutting you in the process. “Nothing is okay! How will it ever be okay?”
You held his face, fingers gently curling around his jaw to get him to look at you. “Baby, that was just a nightmare. He’s okay. He’s with Athena at their temporary apartment.”
Buck’s eyes met yours, his crystal blue eyes surrounded by red as his brow furrowed in confusion. “W-what? That-that’s impossible there was only one cure and we used that on Chimney. Bobby couldn’t have…” He trailed off, his voice giving way as he looked at you with pure desperation to understand.
Your thumbs rubbed under his eyes, tracing comforting crescents there. You couldn’t help the tears that stung your own eyes or how your lip quivered as you shook your head. “Baby, dad’s line was never compromised. His equipment was intact. He’s okay, I promise you.”
“But-”
You shushed him gently, adjusting how you were sitting to hold him. “I know… I know it felt real. Dreams like that always do. And it’s wild how, despite knowing the truth, your brain can twist reality so intricately that you wake up wondering which is which. Scared that the good life was the dream and the nightmare is your life…”
Buck sniffled, a small sound escaping his lips. His head was throbbing, pulsing alongside his heart as it crossed wires and memories. He was half-awake trying to make it all make sense.
“C’mon,” you said softly, sniffling as you kissed his damp forehead. You slipped out of the bed, grabbing Buck’s zip-up hoodie before pulling him to his feet. “Put this on and find your shoes.”
“Honey-”
“We’re going over there, right now.”
Your words held a sense of authority, leaving no room for argument or questioning. Not that Buck needed to question you, he trusted you more than he trusted anyone.

The drive across town was a blur. Street lights and business signs merged together, nothing but bright neon streaks that went by too fast for anyone to process properly.
Buck was fighting to stay awake, to pull himself out of his dream fog and focus. He felt stuck, constantly trying to decipher dream from reality.
A gentle squeeze to his hand felt like he was sucked back into his body. Everything around him clears, all becoming separate entities rather than a multi-colored blob. He could hear the low hum of the radio, the ambient sounds filling the space of the car in substitute of his voice.
Your lips brushed his knuckles as you reached across your body to put the car in park. “We’re here.” You could feel his hand trembling in yours just before you let go to exit the car.
He quickly got out after you, rounding the car and reaching for your hand again.
He needed it. He needed to be grounded.
You both walked in, nodding to the doorman as you walked right past him to the elevator.
After you got in and pressed the button you turned to Buck. He was bouncing on his toes, his unoccupied hand restless at his side.
“Baby, c’mere,” you said softly, tugging on his hand before wrapping your arms around him in a proper hug.
He immediately returned it, his arms pinning you to his chest desperately.
His voice was raspy as he spoke. “I’m so scared…”
“I know, Ev’... I know. But I promise, he’s okay. You’ll see for yourself soon, I swear it.”
The elevator slowed to a stop and you pulled apart as the doors opened. You took his hand again, gripping it tightly as you walked down the hall to your parents door.
Your knuckles rapped on the door in a rhythm that would signal to whoever was awake that it was you. Buck brought the concept up to Bobby back when you both began dating. It was just a silly little thing you did as a family, nothing serious.
But the sound of it made Buck’s stomach sink with anxiety.
What if Bobby would never hear that again? What if Buck would never hear Bobby knock like that again?
What if-
“Y/n? Buck?”
You smiled at Athena softly, a hint of an apology in it. “Hi, Athena…”
She wrapped her robe around her, yawning as she ushered you both inside. “It’s two in the morning, baby, what’re you doing here? Is everything okay?”
Her voice was laced with sleep and you almost felt bad for waking her up but there was a glass of water on the counter. She had been awake for a few minutes when you knocked.
Buck wiped at his eyes with his free hand as he squeezed yours.
You returned the gesture, rubbing your own eyes as you spoke.
“We umm… we need-”
“Bobby…” Buck’s frayed voice rattled through the kitchen, his shoulders dropping as if the strings keeping him so tense had been cut.
You and Athena looked up to see your dad walk out of the bedroom, stretching as he walked into the kitchen.
“Buck? Y/n? What’s going on? Everything okay?” He was slowly coming around to the idea of being awake at such an ungodly hour as he noticed the look on Buck’s face.
“Buck? What’s wrong?”
Without saying anything, Buck launched his 6’2” frame at your dad, curling into him like a child. He pressed his face into Bobby’s shoulder, crying in relief.
You noticed Athena glance at you from the corner of your eye as Bobby looked at you, hoping for an explanation.
You swallowed, arms wrapping around yourself as you leaned against the counter. “A nightmare… about the lab incident.”
Bobby gripped Buck tighter, realizing that being the only one not stuck in there must have taken a bigger toll on Buck than he thought.
Athena rubbed your arm, extending a comforting hand to you. Seeing Buck reacting so viscerally like this had to be affecting you too, she wanted you to know that you weren’t alone.
You smiled at her appreciatively, resting your head on her shoulder as Buck pulled back from the hug.
“It-it felt so real… you died, Bobby. I-I thought we lost you.”
A deep frown pulled at your dad’s lips, his brow creasing as he gripped Buck’s shoulders.
“It was just a dream, son,” he said, pulling Buck back into a hug. “Everyone made it out. Everyone’s okay. I’m okay, and I don’t plan on changing that anytime soon.”

STARVE
Summary: You lost your husband some time ago while he served as a gladiator for Emperors Geta and Caracalla. General Acacius saved you from becoming an object of pleasure for the emperors. Since then, he has taken you as his mistress. In your free time, you became a disciple of Ravi, the healer, dedicating yourself to tending to wounded gladiators. All seemed to be in perfect harmony until Hanno, a gladiator driven by a thirst for vengeance, crossed your path.
Author's Note: And the gods said: Starve will be a multi-chapter fanfiction (I hope readers will follow it all the way through). Without further ado, the characters belong to Ridley Scott's Gladiator II universe, though there will be significant deviations from the film. Historical accuracy regarding life in the Roman Empire may not always be strictly observed, so I hope you can overlook that. Yes, this story revolves around a love triangle, but I will strive to satisfy everyone. This fanfiction will include adult content, violence, and potentially coarse language. Enjoy!
preview two
ONE
A starry night, as though the gods themselves had blessed the heavens. You stand in the place where you often meet General Acacius to maintain appearances. He will spend the day attending to Emperors Geta and Caracalla alongside his wife, Lucilla. Meanwhile, your day will revolve around the gladiators—or, more precisely, their wounds. You have been summoned to tend to the gladiators who will participate in that day's opening of the games—battles they will wage against one another or against beasts. Your thoughts are divided between Marcus Acacius and Hanno, the gladiator you strongly suspect harbors intentions of avenging his wife’s death at Acacius's hands.
"Mea domina, you are here," General Acacius murmurs as he approaches, though his complexion appears unusually pale. He is dressed in a tunic that conceals most of his body, with a laurel crown adorning his head. The lateness of the hour and the absence of natural light obscure your view, but as he draws nearer, you notice a wound bleeding on his arm. You rush toward him, your concern overcoming any formality. Without hesitation, you expose the area of his injury, removing the fabric to inspect it. His skin is feverishly warm beneath your touch.
"Who did this to you, Acacius?" you ask, a wave of anger surging through your body, mingling with an overwhelming sense of concern. "By the Gods, you should have come to me sooner," you say, your voice laced with frustration as your fingers graze his fevered skin, causing him to shiver under your touch. You guide him to a nearby bench, urging him to rest. Knowing him well, you suspect he has concealed his injury from everyone, unwilling to reveal any vulnerability. Fortunately, all are accustomed to you tending to him—it is, after all, one of your roles as his lover.
"I did not wish to trouble anyone, least of all you, Y/N," Acacius replies, his tone steady as he attempts to mask his discomfort. "A gladiator loosed an arrow at me—it must have struck me somehow. Macrinus certainly knows how to select skilled men for his arena." His voice retains its commanding timbre, though his actions betray his weariness. He pulls you closer by the waist, resting his head against your abdomen, as though seeking solace in your presence.
"General, we must go to the place where Ravi keeps his instruments. I must tend to your wounds and return you, whole and well, to your wife," you say, holding Acacius' face in your hands, as if willing him to remain conscious. His deep brown eyes meet yours, their gaze uncharacteristically tender.
"But this is my time with you," he whispers, taking your hands in his and pressing a kiss to each. "And I have told you, you need not address me as General. Our relationship has long surpassed formalities," he says, his voice softer now as he finishes kissing your hands. A fleeting thought tempts you to lean down and kiss him, but before you can act, the sound of approaching footsteps interrupts. Guards arrive, accompanied by Lucilla and Ravi. You instinctively want to withdraw from Acacius, but his unconscious state forces you to hold him upright.
"Take my husband to his quarters. Ravi is here to see to his treatment," Lucilla commands, her tone dismissive, her gaze avoiding yours entirely. The guards comply, carrying the now-limp Acacius away.
"Y/N," Lucilla addresses you, her voice sharp and deliberate, "from this moment forward, Ravi will be responsible for Acacius' care. I trust the gladiators will suffice to occupy your attention." Her words, though polite in form, carry an unmistakable message: your role as Acacius' lover is nearing its end. Vulnerability washes over you, but you lower your head in acknowledgment, as if understanding her decree. Without another glance, she follows the guards to accompany her husband.
Ravi approaches, carrying his instruments and tools. "I need you to go to Macrinus' gladiator and tend to his wounds. Macrinus has already informed the guards of his gladiator's need for treatment, so you need not fear," Ravi instructs, already preparing to attend to Acacius himself. Fear is far from your mind. The only sentiment stirring within you is anger, directed at the one who dared harm Acacius. You nod in silent agreement and gather the necessary supplies to treat the gladiator, your resolve firm as you set out to fulfill your task.
The guards grant you entry without hesitation, their expressions indifferent. Inside the dimly lit cell, you find Hanno—his body marred by fresh wounds, his face pale but defiant. He appears battered, as though every ounce of strength has been drained from him. Anticipating the state you might find him in, you came prepared with tools to clean his wounds, at least superficially.
"The lovely healer graces me with her presence once more," Hanno mutters, his tone laced with a mix of sarcasm and faint amusement. A strained smile flickers across his lips as he clutches his abdomen, evidently in pain. "I suppose you're here to finish what the guards so generously began." His voice is hoarse and weakened, yet it retains a biting edge.
A chill runs through you as you step closer to him, fully entering his cell. The air feels heavier here, and his piercing gaze follows your every move. "They must have hurt you for what you did to General Acacius," you state, your voice measured as you kneel, setting down your tools. The mention of Acacius draws no sign of remorse from Hanno; instead, he seems emboldened, inching himself nearer to you with deliberate subtlety. As you settle beside him, his proximity becomes undeniable, his rugged presence filling the confined space. Though weakened, there’s an unsettling calm in his demeanor, as though he is testing you, seeking something unspoken within your resolve.
As you begin to cleanse his wounds, the facade of the formidable gladiator crumbles beneath the weight of his pain. Low, anguished groans escape his lips despite his efforts to suppress them. It becomes clear that he is suffering deeply, though he clings to the last vestiges of his pride.
"Ah, here we are again," Hanno murmurs between strained breaths, his voice laced with an uneven mixture of sarcasm and torment. "You, seizing the opportunity to inflict more pain under the guise of tending my wounds, and I, striving to focus on your beauty to mask just how much it hurts."
A flicker of anger rises within you, mingled with a reluctant pity for the state of his battered body. "Flattery will not grant you any special treatment," you reply sharply, leaning in closer to examine his injuries more thoroughly. "I warned you not to harm Acacius dishonorably. I thought you might exercise restraint, but I was mistaken."
With deft movements, you remove the upper portion of his tattered garment to gain better access to the worst of his injuries. He offers no resistance, watching you with an unsettling mix of amusement and interest, as if savoring the attention. "I do recall saying I would take your request under consideration," Hanno says nonchalantly, as though the matter were trivial.
Frustrated by his flippant attitude, you press a tender wound more firmly than necessary. He lets out a guttural cry of pain, his composure faltering for a moment. "Forgive me," you say with a mocking smile, your tone cold. "I must have forgotten to take your suffering under consideration."
He meets your gaze, a faint, knowing grin curling his lips as if he derives some twisted pleasure from your defiance. "If you wish to exact vengeance, then take the dagger you’ve hidden and drive it into my heart," he says, his voice low and steady, despite the evident strain. "It is the only way to shield your precious General Acacius from my wrath." Hanno leans closer, his piercing blue eyes locking onto yours, the proximity of his battered form unsettling. His observation of the concealed blade leaves you momentarily stunned, your grip tightening as the tension between you hangs heavy in the air.
"Is that what you believe I should do—kill you?" you ask, a faint trace of amusement in your tone as you marvel at Hanno's audacity. He leans closer to your face, his gaze sharp and provocative.
"If protecting him is your goal, then yes," Hanno replies, his voice steady, his eyes fixed upon yours with an intensity that borders on insolence.
You smile, intrigued by how easily he speaks of his own demise. "General Acacius is a wise and seasoned warrior. He will know how to deal with you," you say, leaning in as if accepting the challenge his very presence seems to demand.
"If you think I seek an honorable battle with Acacius solely to shield him," you continue, your voice steady and measured, "then you are gravely mistaken. Look at yourself, gladiator. To achieve vengeance, it is not merely strength or skill you require. A true fighter knows which battles are worth fighting." Your hand moves deftly to clean a wound near his neck, blood still seeping from it. He winces slightly but does not pull away, his sharp blue eyes never leaving your face.
"The way you speak, it seems as though you've developed an affection for me, healer," Hanno remarks, his tone soft but probing. "If that is the case, why carry a dagger?" He gently grasps your arm, his grip firm yet careful, as if urging you to give him your full attention.
"Because the wife of General Acacius made it clear before the guards that I will no longer tend to his care. For many of the men here, that declaration is as good as an invitation to see me as their sport," you reply, your gaze unwavering as you meet his eyes.
For a moment, something shifts in his expression—a flicker of understanding crossing his features. "I see," he murmurs, his voice lower now. "Then show me. Show me how you would wield it to defend yourself." Though puzzled by his request, you reach for the dagger and position it as you would in a moment of self-defense, your stance steady and deliberate. His eyes follow your movements with a keen focus, his lips curving into a faint, almost approving smile as he observes your resolve.
"You’re holding it incorrectly," he says, taking your hands, still clutching the dagger, and guiding them to a precise spot on the left side of his chest. "Here. Strike here on any opponent—more than once, if need be—and you’ll increase your chances of survival," he instructs, his voice steady, his grip firm but not overbearing.
You had never considered the necessity of knowing how to fight; before Acacius, your late husband had always been there to shield you. But now, an unsettling vulnerability lingers, heavy and unshakable.
"You place too much trust in me," you murmur, your gaze locked with his. "I could hurt you with this dagger right now."
His lips curl into a faint, genuine smile, weak but without hesitation. "Honestly, I wouldn’t mind if you did," Hanno replies, the tension between you thickening.
You drop the dagger back to its place, snapping yourself out of the moment. "Turn around. I need to apply an herbal salve to the wound on your back so I can retire to my quarters. It has been a long day," you instruct, watching as he complies without protest. His physique, sculpted as one would expect of a gladiator, does not escape your notice. But before your thoughts can wander too far, you refocus, applying the salve with care. He grunts softly at the touch, his pain audible but restrained.
"I could teach you how to defend yourself," Hanno murmurs as you finish tending to his wounds. Once done, he turns to face you, his expression expectant.
"Are you certain you wish to help me, knowing my loyalty lies with General Acacius?" you ask, genuine curiosity laced in your tone.
He lifts a hand to your face, his touch gentle as he caresses your cheek. "Something tells me you need help, and I want to offer it. General Acacius or not, this is about you," he emphasizes, pointing at you, "and me," he finishes, gesturing to himself.
You hesitate, uncertainty flickering in your eyes, but the sincerity in his gaze stirs something within you. Perhaps it would be wise to accept his offer. "Very well, gladiator," you reply, taking the hand that had touched your face and grazing it softly with your fingertips. "Teach me what you know, and I promise to mend you each time you require it."

50 Ways To Say Goodbye
911 x fem!reader
5k word count
Summary The 911 helps you escape your abusive ex but in true 118 dumb, dumb stile they create a bigger problem that Athena has to fix.
fluff, idiots
Warnings mention and description of death, domestic abuse and self-harm.
Note: I've been working on the next part of The Dating Oddessey while listening to some music. 50 Ways To Say Goodbye by Train came on and gave me this idea. Didn't quite turn out how I wanted but its still pretty funny. Also you could take this to mean either Eddie or Buck has feelings for you. Not how I intended it but it's how it came out.
...
Today you had finally done it. You had finally worked up the courage to break up with your horrible excuse for a human ex Bradley. You made sure to break up with him while he was working so you had witnesses. The last thing you needed was him gaslighting you back into the relationship like last time. With witnesses, it was harder for him to say the breakup never happened.
Today had been planned out for weeks. Your best friends, Eddie and Buck, had been helping you slowly remove your stuff from his house for the last month and taking it to your Dad's place. You did have much, after all, Bradley didn’t allow you to have much. He had to control everything from the furniture to the decorations and even the food kept in the house.
Outside Bradley's workplace Buck and Eddie were waiting for you in Eddie's truck. Your Dad, Bobby, was their boss and had given them the day off to play bodyguard for you. When you walked out the front door with Bradley storming after you both boys were fast to jump out of the truck and jog towards you. Eddie wasn’t going to let him hurt you anymore and Buck didn’t want what happened to his sister Maddie to happen to you for that reason Eddie had hidden a lot of what Bradley had done to you from all your friends and even your Dad. Eddies had been the house you would hide in for days at a time while waiting for bruises to heal. Eddie had been the person to give you that final push you needed to leave.
“What if next time he kills you y/n? Did you think of that?” Eddie slammed his fist onto his kitchen counter as you held a bag of frozen peas to your soon-to-be black eye. “Do you have any idea what that would do to me? To Chris? Hell, think about your father and Athena. The rest of our friends. We all love you y/n and yet you keep allowing yourself to be treated like shit. You know what if you're going to go back to him this time then I don’t want you in my house, take your things and leave” Eddie had left the kitchen, leaving you standing there shocked to your core. It scared you. More than the beatings. You didn’t want to lose Eddie as your friend, you didn’t want to hurt him or Chris, your family, your friends. Eddie was right enough was enough.
After that night you had come clean with everyone about what was happening. Athena was quick to offer up their spare room for you and Bobby wouldn’t take no for an answer. Eddie and Maddie had to keep Buck distracted at all times until your items were moved out of Bradley's house because he threatened to kill the guy if he laid eyes on him. So when Buck and Eddie saw him coming up fast behind you screaming at you Eddie made sure to direct Buck to get you out of the way. Buck was quick to slide an arm around your waist and guide you quickly to Eddie's truck. Eddie blocked Bradley from coming any closer to you. You couldn’t hear what was said between the two of them but whatever Eddie said had Bradley ducking back into his building quickly. Eddie waited until the building doors closed behind Bradley before walking back to the truck. He didn’t speak once he started the truck nor did he speak for the entire trip to your Dads. His white knuckles gripped the steering wheel the whole drive there. Their conversation was something that had pissed him off. Once at your Dad's, you excused yourself to go lay down. The day had left you physically and mentally exhausted.
“It’s okay baby you go rest, your Dad wants to cook you something special for dinner so I’ll come get you when his home and cooking, okay” Athena gave you a loving smile.
You made your way to the spare room and quickly made yourself comfortable on the bed. As you lay there you could hear Athena talking with Buck and Eddie.
“She’ll be safe here, trust me if that guy comes anywhere near this house he can consider himself arrested” Athena said
“How long does it take for someone like him to just leave a person alone?” Buck asked
“Some give up after a few days, some a few weeks, months, years, some never quit” Athena sighed “But this guy I’d say as soon as he has a new target he’ll leave her alone”
“Athena…” Eddie was cut off by someone banging on the front door. Before anyone could move to open the door what could only be described as a stampede echoed through the house. Heavy boots took staircase steps 2 at a time until the fanfare came to an end in the kitchen where Athena, Eddie and Buck still stood in shock at the interruption. Stood before them in full uniform fresh from a call were Bobby, Chimney, Hen and Ravi.
“What in the world are you lot doing in my kitchen?” Athena asked frustration lacing her voice
“Did you get y/n?” Chimney ignored Athena looking straight at Eddie and Buck
“y/n is trying to rest which she won’t be able to do with you lot acting like a bunch of zoo animals” Athena crossed her arms over her chest looking at them all like a disappointed mother.
“So what's the plan from here how do we keep her ex from intimidating her back into a relationship with him” Hen asked keeping her voice just above a whisper partly to keep from disturbing y/n but mostly to appease Athena.
“Well, to start Maddie and I are going to take her out for the day tomorrow, take her mind off all this” Athena motioned around the room.
“Then starting the day after I’ve adjusted our rosters so someone can be here with her around the clock in case he shows up here” Bobby spoke up
“Unfortunately, someone here invited him over for dinner so he knows exactly where we live” Athena threw an accusatory look at Bobby.
“Maybe she should come to stay with me he has no idea where I live” Eddie offered up.
“No she’s safer here with Athena” Bobby said “Any sign of trouble and Athena can have the entire LAPD on our doorstep” Bobby smiled at Athena.
“A Mumma has to protect her babies” Athena smiled back at Bobby. “And besides, he knows all of us and he will likely stalk all of us to get to her”
“So what are we supposed to do just wait for him to lose interest” Buck spoke up frustrated with the situation “I mean you said it yourself Athena it could take years”
“Or days or weeks or months, the only guaranteed way to get rid of him quick is if y/n died, it’s the only way I’ve seen his type leave their victim alone for good” Athena said. The 118 shared a look, a look of mischief, of a united thought on how to get rid of this threat to their family. Athena knew immediately what they were thinking and quickly began shaking her head and looking between them.
“Don’t you even think about it” Athena pointed a stern finger at each person standing in her kitchen. “You’ll be causing more problems than what you’ll solve”
…
Despite Athena's warning the 118 decided as a family that if ‘the asshole’ as they affectionately dubbed him showed his face to any of them they would warn him to back off and if he wouldn’t listen they would tell him y/n was dead. It seemed like the perfect plan until it wasn’t.
The first person to meet him face to face was Chimney. It was 4 days after Eddie and Buck had taken you to live with Bobby and Athena. It was Eddie's day off. He had taken you out for lunch, then you picked Christopher up from school before heading back to Eddies to hang out. Eddie asked if you wanted to stay for dinner and a movie. Christopher who overheard the offer from where he sat in the dining room doing his homework practically begged you to stay. You called Athena to let her know you were going to be out late with Eddie and that he was going to drive you back when the movie ended. Christopher was old enough after all to stay home alone for the 20 minutes it would take Eddie to drop you home.
Because of this, it was Chimney who got stuck working late at the firehouse. He was the last to leave after finishing off all the small boring end-of-shift jobs like making sure all the dinner dishes were done and the ambulance restocked for the next shift. Bradley had been parked across the road from the station all day watching the team come and go. Your little stunt at his office had cost him his job. He was going to make you pay and he had all the time in the world to make it happen. He waited and counted off your friends as they left. He wanted to make sure that he followed the last person to leave because he knew if he risked following anyone else the rest of your friends would know and his plan would be ruined. He noticed after the first three calls of the shift that one of the guys he had seen you out the front of his office with wasn’t on shift today. He decided it was likely that guy's fault you left him. You’d probably been seeing him behind his back all along. He’d make him pay too. He counted them out one by one as they left the firehouse, first, it was the other guy he’d seen at his office and some Middle Eastern-looking dude. Then that black woman he’d seen you hang out with left. Next was your father. He almost forgot to wait to see him. He wanted to chase him down and run him over with his car but he held it together. He knew there was one more person left. The little Asian guy. When he hadn’t come out after 30 minutes he almost thought he went home earlier and he’d missed him. That was until Chimney walked out of the 118 firehouse almost 45 minutes after his shift had finished. He was talking away on his phone not paying attention to his surroundings creating the perfect situation for a stalker.
He followed Chimney from the firehouse to one of those 24-hour corner stores. He followed him in close behind, waiting until Chimney was alone in the back of the store. As luck would also have it there were no security cameras in sight. While Chimney was distracted looking at the small selection of diapers the store carried, he took his chance. Before Chimney could respond, he had grabbed him by the shoulder and had him pinned against the diaper shelves he was just looking at.
“Where is she?” He asked aggressively.
“Who?” Chimney asked shocked but trying to remain calm. He knew exactly who he wanted.
“Y/n” He held back from yelling in Chimney's face.
“Y/n? You…you mean you haven’t heard?” Chimney tried his best at putting on a distraught face even willing a few tears to fall.
“Heard what?” He loosed his grip on Chimney.
“I’m sorry man, she… she's dead” Chimney said softly trying to lace his voice with sadness.
“What no! What happened?” He aggressively slammed Chimney back against the shelves.
“The night Eddie and Buck picked her up from your place she slit her wrists in Bobby and Athena's bathroom” Chimney made himself sob.
Bradley shook his head in disbelief and ran from the shop. Once out of sight, Chimney let a massive grin break out on his face and he let out a proud chuckle. He grabbed diapers and practically skipped to the counter with them. He was so proud of himself and his lie. He knew if Bradley went looking to see if it was true he would see there had been a call out to Bobby and Athenas that night. It hadn’t been for you thought. Buck being the massive cluts that he is had managed to get his foot stuck in the bin beside the toilet while changing out a light bulb in the sconce above the sink which had stopped working while he was using the toilet. While trying to get the bin off his foot he slipped on the bath mat and fell smacking the back of his head with a loud yet hollow-sounding thunk on the sink, Luckly for Buck he has a thick skull and came out of it with a sore bum, ankle and head and a bruised ego. They still had him taken to the hospital because even though the injuries weren’t that bad he still needed to be cleared of any major head injury before returning to work.
…
2 days later by chance, he ran into Hen. It was her day off and she was about to come pick you up to go out to the movies but first, she had to run some errands. Bobby wanted to have a barbecue at his place to celebrate family and new beginnings. She was grabbing a few things to take with her when he spotted her. She was about to walk into the supermarket when he walked out. Seeing Hen he decided to take the chance to confirm what Chimney had told him. He grabbed Hen who was distracted by the shopping list on her phone and pulled her to the side of the door.
“What do you think you're doing? Get your hands off me!” Hen snapped.
“I’m sorry I just want to talk” He sighed.
“What do you want?” Hen asked crossing her arms over her chest,
“Is it true?” He asked.
“Is what true?” Hen asked.
“Is she dead?”
“I’m afraid so” Hen dropped her head.
“No, no it can’t be” He looked at the ground.
“If it means anything she didn’t suffer” Hen put a hand on his shoulder. When he looked up at her confused Hen was quick to drop her hand back by her side. “There was nothing anybody could do for her. I can assure you she died the second the car made contact with the semi, she wasn’t even aware of the fire”
“A car accident?” He stumbled backwards. He ran away from Hen and made his way into the parking lot. The groceries he had brought were abandoned on the ground. Hen passed a confused look to the parking lot, shrugged and continued with her day. She knew if he went looking he would find a two-vehicle collision between a truck and a car. Y/n was nowhere near the accident but the 118 had responded to the accident so if he looked it up he wouldn’t be able to accuse them of lying.
…
The very next day Ravi saw Bradley hanging out across the street watching the fire house. Ravi would have run off and grabbed Bobby but he was at home spending time with you. Ravi took a quick look around but couldn’t spot any other members of the 118 to alert. Ravi decided that he was going to have to do something about it himself. He jogged across the road and stood beside Bradley's car. He positioned himself in such a way that if anything should happen anyone watching on in the firehouse would be able to see both Ravi and Bradley in the car. Ravi through a look back at the firehouse and then turned his attention back to Bradley.
“Any reason you're watching the firehouse?” Ravi asked faking a smile trying to pretend that he didn’t know who the man in the car was. “Are you interested in working for the LAFD? I could get you some information if you want to come inside” Ravi motioned towards the firehouse with an outstretched hand.
“Oh no, I was just hoping someone could help me get some information on a friend” Bradley put a fake smile on his face.
“No problem sir if you want to come inside I can set you up in the captain's office and we can all have a couple of officers down to help you” Ravi never once let the smile on his face falter.
“I don’t want to be a bother” If he stepped foot in the firehouse he knew he would be recognised by the other members of the 118. “My friends' name is Y/n Nash I believe you know her, she’s the fire captain's daughter”
“Oh y/n, yeah I knew her, um the captain is actually off today, I guess you’re here for the funeral?” Ravi let his smile drop. He tucked his hands into his pockets, rocked back on his heels and looked at the ground. “I could get you the funeral details if you want”
“No, no it’s fine, when did she die? How did she die? I mean last time I saw her she was healthy, she seemed happy” Bradley knew he was baiting Ravi. He’d already been told two different things. Either your whole team was messing with him or you were messing with them. Either way, he was going to figure it out and track you down. And when he found you he was going to make you pay.
“Uh she…she was involved in a hit and run, Cap had to decide to turn off her life support. The doctors said she had almost no chance of recovery any way” Ravi looked up to the sky knowing if he looked Bradley in the eyes he might break and smile.
“I’m so sorry to hear that, I was just in town and thought I would stop in for a minute but I wouldn’t want to be a burden, pass my condolences on to Bobby” Bradley gave Ravi a small smile and pulled away from the firehouse. When he was out of sight Ravi fist-bumped the air and jogged back into the firehouse. As far as Ravi was concerned that was the last time he thought any of you would hear from him. Bradley on the other hand had only gathered more evidence that the 118 was potentially lying to him.
…
Early the next morning Bradley stalked Eddie to his usual running path. He waited until Eddie was on a particularly quiet portion of the track, hidden from the eyes of the public by bushes and trees. He blocked Eddie's path not allowing him to step around him. Eddie the second he laid eyes on Bradley wanted to punch his lights out but he held his composure. Eddie placed some distance between himself and Bradley before speaking up.
“What the hell do you want?” Eddie said voice laced with anger.
“I just want to know what happened to y/n” Bradley put his hands up in surrender.
“You have no right to ask about her” Eddie snapped “She was so happy until you came along, you broke her down, you isolated her from us, you’re the reason…” Eddie choked on his words. A mixture of real and fake emotions was flowing through Eddie. He was so upset and caught off guard that he almost went off the script. “You’re the reason shes dead”
“Now Edmundo I don’t believe that for a second” Bradley smirked at Eddie
“Look in my eyes and tell me I’m lying” Eddie growled, “I carried her lifeless body out of her parent's house after she blew her brains out with her mother's gun, I begged and pleaded with god and anyone who would listen to bring her back to me, to us.”
“No, no… you're lying!” Bradley yelled backing away from Eddie.
“She killed herself because we wouldn’t let her go back to you, maybe we should have, maybe if we did she’d still be here” Eddie's gaze dropped to the ground. The next thing Eddie heard was the sound of someone running away from him. He looked up to see himself once again alone. A smile broke out on his face as he continued with his run. He couldn’t wait to finish up his run, get home, shower and get to work. The only thing that was going to top this was having dinner with you, Buck and Chris tonight. Bradley on the other hand was not so sure what was going on. He found himself confused. Everything Eddie said seemed so genuine. Maybe Bobby and Eddie had told the rest of the team different things to keep them from knowing what happened. He hadn’t seen you around since that day in the office not even with Eddie and Buck even though he knew you’d always run off to them in the past. Still, he had two more people to ask and he wasn’t going to stop until he got the truth.
…
That afternoon he followed Bobby into a butcher as he looked for the perfect cuts of steak and his favourite burger patties for the weekend during some downtime between calls. He wanted this BBQ to be reminiscent of the BBQs that you had when you were a kid even though, Mum, Robbie and Brook weren’t here anymore and you’d felt like he had tried to replace them with Athena, May and Harry. You’d grown to love them like Bobby did and accepted them as your family. Bobbys plans came to a halt when Bradley grabbed him by the arm and spun him to look at him. Bobby went from shocked to furious in seconds. Bradley could tell immediately that Bobby was not impressed to see him.
“I’m not trying to start anything” Bradley puts his hands up in defence “I just need to know…”
“Need to know what?” Bobby snaps crossing his arms across his chest making himself larger and more intimidating.
“Is she dead?” He asked.
“My daughter? My child who you destroyed so completely that she couldn’t see her self-worth. Yes, she’s dead and it's all your fault” Bobby was now shaking with anger, his arms hung limp at his side and his gaze had met the floor. “I had to scrape her brains off every surface of my guest room, all my children are now gone, I couldn’t save any of them, what kind of father can’t protect his children?” Bobby looked up to where Bradley had been standing to find that he at some point had run off. Bobby looked around the empty store and shrugged. Had he been a little overdramatic sure but he didn’t think he’d been that bad. With a smile plastered on his face, he went back to picking out the steaks for the weekend and hoped that would be the last time he would have to see Bradley.
…
The next morning Buck found himself running late for his shift. Chris insisted on watching a movie with everyone the night before but fell asleep not 15 minutes into the film despite insisting to Eddie that he was not sleepy at all. Eddie carried Chris to bed and decided that since the movie had started you might as well watch it. It was one of your and Chris's favourites. Eddie was sick of watching the movie on repeat and Buck had somehow had the blessing of not being subject to FernGully until now. After the movie, Buck drove you home. This meant he didn’t get home until almost 11 pm and he had to be at the station at 7 am. Bradley had spotted Buck on his drive home and decided to camp out the front of Buck's apartment building for the night. When Buck stumbled out the front door in a rushed mess the next morning Bradley was there to greet him.
“I’m not here to start a fight, I just need answers” He held his hands up in defence.
“What the hell do you need answers for?” If looks could kill Bradley would be dead with how Buck looked at him.
“I just want to know if y/n is dead” Bradley moved further back from Buck out of fear of getting hit.
“Dead” Buck yelled and got so close to Bradley that their chests were almost touching “Why do think it’s any of your business to know what’s happening with y/n?”
“I just heard rumours and wanted to know” Bradley flinched away from Buck.
“You wanted to know? You wanted to know?” Buck looked away and scoffed “Yes she’s dead alright, she killed herself, you have no idea what it’s like to be called out to a scene where someone you love has killed themselves, to see their blood all over and know that nothing you can do will save them. To see them choking on their blood as it spills out of their open throat”
Bradley had gone pale, so pale that Buck thought he was going to faint. For a split moment, Buck felt bad, made be he had been too harsh and taken things too far. Bradley quickly crossed back across the road to his car and took off before any more words could be exchanged. Buck shrugged and quickly made his way to work running even more late now. But that was normal for Buck so he knew no one would question him and he wouldn’t have to tell anyone about running into Bradley.
…
Finally, Saturday rolled around 2 days later. You had been kept busy all morning by Athena who had you help put out her good wine glasses, set the table for lunch, and do other small tasks. Eddie, Christopher and Buck had shown up around 10 am because Chris was too impatient and excited to hang out with his favourite person. You were so distracted with Chris that before you knew it, the rest of the 118 had arrived. Bobby and Buck were manning the BBQ, Chris was off playing with Danny and Mara, Hen, Chimney, Ravi, Karen and Maddie were busy talking among themselves. Athena was busy drifting around the kitchen while Eddie stood outside next to you watching the kids play.
“I’m glad you left him” Eddie broke the silence.
“Me too” You smiled up at him “Thank you for knocking some sense into me”.
“Okay everyone lunch is ready!” Bobby called bringing a tray of meat into the dining room.
Everyone sat around the table. Athena had set the kids up at their table out in the yard which made them think they were the coolest kids ever. She even gave them their plastic wine glasses to drink juice from. You were in the middle of one of the greatest lunches you’d ever had when there was an overly aggressive knock on the door. Before Athena or Bobby could move to answer the door someone yelled through the front door.
“I know you're all in there, I want answers and I want them now!” Bradley screamed through the door.
“What in the world?” Athena looked towards the landing where the front door was.
“What’s he doing here?” Buck looked around the table.
“I guess this means the plan didn’t work” Chimney looked between everyone.
“What plan?” Athena looked at Chimney.
“Uh, well, uh, Bobby do you want to explain it” Chimney looked to Bobby.
“You brought it up” Bobby motioned back to Athena.
“What plan?” Athena stood up, crossed her arms and started tapping her foot.
The 118 shared panicked glances while you, Maddie and Karen looked around the table confused.
“Robert Wade Nash you better start speaking or so help me god you’ll be sleeping at the firehouse tonight” Athena levelled her attention on Bobby.
“We might have told him y/n was dead” Bobby said
“Dead” Athena looked around the table “After I told you not to tell him that you went and did it anyway”
“Well in all fairness Athena I was the one who told him she was dead” Buck admitted looking at his plate.
“You? No, I told him” Chimney jumped in.
“Wait but I told him she was dead like a week ago” Hen added. “Oh god what have we done”
“One at a time, how did you all say she died” Athena asked the table.
“Slit her wrists,” Chimney said
“Hit and Run,” Ravi said
“Car accident,” Hen said
“Shot herself with your gun,” Bobby said
“Slit her throat,” Buck said
“Same as Bobby,” Eddie said
You, Maddie and Karen, were trying to hold it together despite all having a bad case of the giggles. Athena was done with the entire 118 at this point and it was clear from the look on Bobbys face he was already trying to decide who would let him crash on their lounge tonight.
“If you weren’t going to listen couldn’t you all have at least agreed on how she died” Athena sighed.
“I’ll go deal with” Bobby went to stand up.
“No you’ve done enough damage” Athena left the table.
Athena went to open the door while everyone else quietly got up from the table and came to peak around the corner. Bradley was still furiously banging on the door when Athena answered it.
“What do you want?” Athena asked angrily.
“I need the truth, I’ve been told so many different things over the last week,” Bradley said “Tell me the truth and I’ll leave you alone”
“Yes y/n is dead, yes she killed herself with my gun, no we haven’t told everyone, now if you don’t mind we’re currently having her wake” Athena crossed her arms.
“I’m so sorry” Bradley quickly turned on his heels and ran off up the driveway out of sight.
Athena took a deep breath and closed the door.
“When I turn around you all best be at that table eating”

ravi singh boyfriend headcannons

a/n: omg this has been sitting in my drafts for agesss sorry 😭 need to write for ravi more he’s so bf wc: 1k taglist: @heartwithsimplenotes @anintellectualintellectual @thecircularlibrary masterlist
your parents literally like him more than you now, and boy does he know it.
you’d come back home to find him in your room sitting on your bed.
“oh, you’re back! was waiting for you for hours— i started to think something terribly awful happened to you.” he got up from the bed in an instant, wrapping his arm around your side and giving you a quick peck on your head.
“hi ravi, um who-“ you furrowed your brows as you looked back to your door then back at him. “who let you in?”
“oh, your brother did.” he stated matter of factly as you both went to sit down on the bed. “then your parents asked me to stay for lunch, then your dog started playing with me, then i started to miss you so i came up to your room. it smells just like you in here.”
one thing caught your attention. “then you started to miss me? wow, i see how it is…” you shook your head dramatically and frowned in faux disdain.
he shot you a smile, “what can i say? the whole family likes me, it’s not my fault.”
“well i don’t like you.” you crossed your arms over your chest. sarcastic bits like this with ravi happened constantly.
“oh, you especially like me.” his lips turned up into a slow grin and he poked your shoulder, breaking your annoyed facade and making you laugh.
ravi makes new nicknames for you all the time.
you were talking a walk, telling him about your day when you paused abruptly and turned away from him, ravi looking at you confusedly and raising a brow.
then you sneezed, and then you sneezed again.
“woah, bless you.” he said through a chuckle, “and bless you again.”
after you tried to resume talking only to be interrupted by a sneeze for the third time, he spoke up.
“sweetheart, you’re going to be holy by the end of the day with how many blesses you’re getting.” he bent down slightly to get a better look at your face. “are you alright?”
you sniffled slightly, “yeah i’m—“ sneeze “i’m fine.” you said as your cleared your throat.
“okay sneezy,” he said as he slung an arm around your shoulder, not caring about getting sick himself, “how about we get you home, you take some medicine while i make you some soup, and you tell me what a spectacular cook i am?”
“but you’re a horrible cook.” you muttered with a light laugh.
“i’m sorry, what was that?” he bent down slightly with a large grin on his face, “you’re so excited and can’t wait? oh, you’re too sweet to me, sneezy. what did i ever do to deserve you?” he quipped back as kissed the top of your head, before steering you two back to walk back to your house.
he kept calling you ‘sneezy’ the rest of the night and for days after that.
“would you stop calling me that?” you asked.
he took a second before answering, putting a finger on his chin and looking up, before shrugging and simply saying, “no.”
a week later he was the sick one, (he hates being sick. “this is what i get for spending time with my beautiful, amazing, but incredibly ill girlfriend?”) and he would still call you sneezy.
as much as you wouldn’t like to admit it, you were missing the other cuter nicknames he would call you like crazy. but to be fair sneezy did grow on you.
his sneezes could make a deaf man hear again.
you were both sitting in silence, focus only on the horror movie playing on the tv and his sneeze literally made you scream and jump off the couch in fear. you thought you were about to meet your end.
“oh my- ravi!” you said breathlessly as you put a hand over your heart, catching your breath.
he was an absolute laughing wreck at your reaction, and all he had to say was, “what, no bless me?”
speaking of scaring you, his favorite ways to greet you unexpectedly is hugs from behind, telling you how much he missed you and kissing your head.
that, or placing his hands on either your shoulders or waist, jolting you and yelling at the same time.
you always know it’s him but you get nightmarishly scared every single time. there’s no in between.
you two have a playlist together and when you’re away, he’d randomly send you a screenshot of a song on it with something along the lines of, “this song reminds me of you.”
when he has to go on a long car ride alone he sends you updates by the hour. literally.
your texts:
ravishingly handsome — Hour one, all is good. Some bastard cut me off and another nearly rear ended me, but still, all is good 👍
you — oh my god ravi
you — are you okay?!?!
you — pls call me when u can
ravishingly handsome — I’m actually perfectly fine
ravishingly handsome — Felt a strong urge to curse them out and hit something, then I thought about your face and oddly enough I felt perfectly peachy, if not a little happy 😃🙂
you — no you did not 😭 possibly giggling and kicking my feet rn
you — ur emojis make me laugh out loud
ravishingly handsome — I think I’M the one making you laugh out loud, not my emoji choices
ravishingly handsome — Also, call me any time. Always free for you.
he texts like an old man honestly, but you love it.
he’s the type to not be on social media too much, so when you say a reference/ joke he just thinks you’re insanely funny.
you don’t have the heart to tell him it’s not your joke.
you start to influence him though, and he has little pieces of your slang/ way of talking in his everyday talking.
obvious but, he is a proud member of the sassy man apocalypse.
all of your parents are now best friends because you and ravi spend so much time together and are always at eachothers houses.
it’s gotten to the point when sometimes your mom texts ravi’s mom to ask you to clean your room when you get back, because you aren’t answering your phone.
sleepovers that last days are very common occurrences.
you’re always wearing his sweaters, and he secretly loves seeing them on you so much.
forehead kisses are 24/7, along with interlinked hands and his thumb running circles on your knuckles.
he doesn’t believe in all that toxic masculinity BS, but when you hold his bicep when walking, his heart flutters a little.
he’s always mentioning you, and your friends harmlessly poke fun at him for the way he can’t stop smiling whenever your name is mentioned, or how he can’t stop talking about you.
you both adore the small quiet moments, like him putting a necklace he bought you on you, or running your fingers through his hair after he’s had a stressful day.
sometimes he cuts himself off when talking to you, or forgets what he’s saying simply because he thinks you’re so gorgeous.
you act annoyed and tell him to “stop that,” but the flush on your face and the way you bite back a smile says otherwise.

೨౿ ⠀ ׅ ⠀ ̇ ⠀⠀ hey sarge, remember me? .
ʚ warnings: agad spoilers, probably not canon ravi, blood n murder talk (its agggtm what did you expect??) ANGST
ʚ paring: ravi singh x f!reader
ʚ summary: ravi and reader broke up a year ago. well, okay, it wasn't a proper breakup and reader knows that, she just left ravi standing there and went off to cambridge, going no contact. how she managed to do that? no god damn idea, but she could surely count on ravi to reach out to her the minute max hastings was in jail.

₍ a/n: i got depressed by this book so you all get traumatized by this fic... ₎
3 minutes after the verdict was read in the crown vs. max hastings:
RAVI: hey sarge, remember me?
i wasn't even sure if i wanted to read that message. it lit up the top of my screen, yeah, and i also knew that max hastings had just lost his case, of course i kept up with that. yet, i wasn't sure if i was ready to crack open this new door just yet.
i wanted to savor the moment, savor the text just sitting there. the text i'd been undeniably waiting for for the past year, eight months, sixteen days and three minutes.
and now it was here, ravi was here. well, not physically, but he'd reached out, reached out only when he knew it was safe to do so and when he knew that di hawkins wouldn't try to come after me. he remembered clearly, and so did i.
YOU: ravi?
a lie.
there's no doubt that this was ravi, his number was still saved in my contacts. i knew this was ravi.
RAVI: yeah, its me.
i'd adjusted to university life pretty well. that's what ravi said when he came to visit the week after we'd started talking again. that day was hard on the both of us, though he excitedly told me about max's conviction, i could tell that the weight of last years events was still weighing him down. but the worst part was that it was still affecting me too.
''i appreciate you for remembering, you know that, right?'' was what i had asked him first thing when he'd arrived here, my arms slung around his shoulders and clinging onto him like a lifeline.
my ravi was back.
''yes, sarge, i know. and i appreciate you too, more than you'll ever know.'' i practically heard his heart break inside his chest. i wanted to tell him how much i still loved him, tell him how much i missed him, but ravi beat me to it.
''i love you. i love you. i love you. you know, sarge, there wasn't never a day i didn't think about you. you were always on my mind, always lurking.''
my sweet ravi.
i practically crushed him with my grip, tears welling up in my eyes as he spoke. ''i love you too, ravi.'' that was something i didn't say often enough last year.
last year.
my memories were slightly more cloudy than before, but the memory, the one of me hitting jason bell in the head with a hammer, the one of ravi and i turning his body around in the car to delay his rigor mortis and livor mortis to make it seem like he'd died much later than he actually had, those memories were still crystal clear in my mind.
me nearly dying, drugging max hastings and almost fucking up my alibi. yet, ravi was still here, or rather here again. here. with me. even after i dragged him into covering up a murder with me. he was still here. i guess that's why i love him so much.
''sarge, i was asking you something. hello?'' right, i zoned out. ''lots of people have been asking about you. little kilton is pretty quiet these days without our little sarge, you know?''
of course it was. criminals in jail or, well, dead. basically all of andie bells family... also in jail or dead. the towns biggest mystery solved, max hastings convicted and no more sarge to uncover other possible crimes. of course it was quiet.
''well, what'd you tell them?'' them. them referring to my family too, i hadn't visited over christmas or for josh's birthday. i knew that was fucked up, but in no universe was i going back to little kilton. not after what had happened, not after what i did.
''i said you were alright. nothing incriminating. but your parents, sarge... they're worried. really worried,'' he sighed, ''they're sad that you don't reach out or visit. sarge, they really miss you.''
they miss me. mom, dad and josh. my friends too, i assumed. but i can't go back, cant reconnect with my past.
''well, then tell them that im sorry. tell them that im sorry but im so caught up in my studies and school stuff that i cant make time to visit...'' that wasnt true, i was doing well in all of my classes and barely did any extra credit work or anything in my free time. i think ravi knew that, yet he still agreed to tell everybody that.
ravi stayed for the weekend. the monday he had to leave again, i cried. we both cried.
suddenly, everything felt like that last night in kilton again, and i hated it. hated it because, again, it brought up so many bad memories that were buried deep in my body.
i had agreed to at least call my family and friends once a month, just to tell them how life was going. it had taken a lot of convincing from ravi, but with enough pleading and puppy eyes he managed to make me agree to it.
the first time i called my mom, that thursday evening, she burst into tears. i couldn't tell if they were tears of happiness or sadness, but the moment dad and josh joined the call, i had to cry too.
after the call, my face still tearstained, i called ravi, my ravi.
RAVI: how did the call go?
YOU: really good. thank you, ravi, really.
and from then on, those calls, those monthly calls, became part of my routine. though i still couldn't visit anyone, they made me feel included, didn't forget me.
and i was so grateful for that.

Just an observation but maybe the color of these book covers interpret the emotional state of pip. White for healthy, Red for conflicted and black indicates that she's finally onto the dark side.

Fallen (Ravi x gn!118!Reader)

word count: 2198
warnings/tags: gn!reader, shy!reader, mention of alcohol/drinking (doesn’t take place), teasing from the team, as always if I missed anything please lmk
note: tried to make this gender neutral (please let me know if I left a “she” anywhere, it’s a habit I’m sorry), had this in my drafts for a long time - currently trying to clear my WIPS
─── ⋆⋅ ☾⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ☾⋅⋆ ─── ⋆⋅ ☾⋅⋆ ───
You’re a new firefighter on the B shift. You’ve only been with the team for less than 3 months. Ravi has been your trainer, showing you how everything is done and making sure you’re comfortable.
Over the last few weeks, you’ve realized just how much you’re starting to like him. He’s patient and sweet and makes you laugh.
You spent hours building up the courage to ask to see him outside of work hours. You knew he’d be working a different shift today and you’d hopefully see him as you were leaving.
Of course you loved the moments when you worked together but you also loved those passing moments when he’d flash a smile at you or ask how your day was.
You’d finished getting dressed into something comfortable for your drive home when you see him. He quickly waves to you and your smile grows.
“Hi, y/n.” He greets almost immediately.
“Hi, Ravi.” You pull at your fingers, looking at your shoes.
“How was your shift?” He stands in front of you, one hand tucked into his pocket and the other holding his bag.
“Pretty good. Not too many crazy calls.” You breathe, shifting from foot to foot.
“That’s good.” He laughs. “Let’s hope my shift goes the same.”
“I’ll try to manifest it.” You laugh with him.
Through the glass walls of the locker room, Buck and Eddie exchange curious glances, eyebrows raised as they attempt to listen to your conversation.
There’s an uncomfortable, no, awkward, maybe, silence that settles between you two. “Well, I should get dressed.” Ravi rocks on his feet, pointing behind you at the lockers.
“Right, no, yeah.” You jump away from the locker room, not that you were blocking the doorway at all. “Have a good shift.”
“Thank you.” He gives one last smile. Just as he passes you, your hand shoots out to stop him, landing on his bag strap.
“I was wondering actually, if maybe you’d like to hangout sometime? Like outside of work?”
“Just us two?” He furrows his brows.
“If that’s something you’re comfortable with, of course. If not, it’s totally cool. We can just forget-“
You’re ramble is thankfully interrupted by the sounds of bells, flashing lights and voice dispatching them to a call.
“I’m sorry, I’ve got to-“
“Yeah, go. Of course.” You usher him, quickly turning to leave the station.
“So, you and Y/n huh? How long has that been going on?” Buck inquires when the team is on their way to the scene.
“What do you mean?” Ravi turns to look at him.
“You guys were making goo goo eyes at each other.” Eddie teases, looking out of the window.
“We were just talking.” Ravi states, confused.
“Ohhhhh, so you don’t know then?” Buck laughs.
“Know what?” Ravi presses.
“Y/n likes you.” Buck states matter of factly.
“No, we’re friends.” Ravi clarifies.
“You guys were literally flirting.” Eddie sasses.
“We were talking about work.” Ravi defends.
“Right…” Eddie drags out. “By talking you mean flirting?”
“Alright, leave him alone.” Bobby rolls his eyes, amused.
The ride is silent as Ravi’s brain processes his coworkers words. Do you like him? And does he like you?
He did start getting a funny kind of feeling two weeks ago when you offered him a napkin during dinner without him asking. You just noticed he needed it and handed him one without question. He’s not even entirely sure why he got flustered when you passed the piece of disposable cloth to him. Then there was that tough call during the same shift. A young boy had gotten hurt badly while at the mall. Ravi was a bit shaken up at the severity of the injury. You offered him a bottle of water and sat with him in silence until you had to leave.
Then just a few days ago, you’d walked in at the start of shift and he’d thought you looked and smelled really nice. You appeared to look freshly showered and the glow from the large open door behind you, created an ethereal halo that had his heart skipping a beat.
The call goes smoothly and not much is needed from him. He has to ask, everyone in engine has more dating experience than him, he needs answers.
“Do you really think y/n likes me?” Ravi blurts, cutting all conversations in the truck.
“It seems like you’re got a crush on the probie.” Buck singsongs.
“Don’t say probie.” Ravi groans.
“So, you like them and they like you. Now, you just ask them on a date.”
“Date? Already? Shouldn’t we get to know each other first?”
“That’s what first dates are for.” Buck winks.
“Before the call, y/n asked to hangout outside of work. Does that count?”
“Wait! What? Why didn’t you start with that?” Chim looks around to the group.
“We didn’t get to finish our conversation.” Ravi shrugs.
“So, you didn’t give them an answer?” Hen raises a brow.
“No, I didn’t have the chance.” Ravi sighs.
“Well, send a text right now.” Buck encourages.
“What would I even say?”
“Just say, hey. Sorry about earlier, I would love to hang out with you. Maybe we can go out for drinks.” Buck offers.
“No, maybe just go out to eat. Do you even know if they like to drink?” Hen shakes her head. “Start with something simple.”
“Drinks help people loosen up, it’s the perfect way to not have an awkward date. Also, you’ve got to be confident and suave. Liquid courage.”
“If they asked to hangout with you, then they like you for you. Just be yourself.” Bobby turns in his seat to face the group. “And don’t take dating advice from Buck.”
“Hey, I’m just saying! The first date is always the most important. He has to take her somewhere nice, show off a little bit. You have to act like you know what you’re doing.”
“It’s not a date, we’re just hanging out.” Ravi clarifies.
“Another name for a date.” Eddie states.
“Wait, really?” Ravi whips his head towards Eddie.
“Not always. How did they word it when they asked you?” Hen sits forward.
“I was wondering if maybe you’d like to hangout sometime, outside of work?” Ravi repeats your earlier question.
“Hmmm, could just be a friendly hang out.” She shrugs.
“So, you don’t think y/n likes me?” Ravi cringes at how it comes out.
“No way, y/n definitely likes you. I mean they did go out of their way to say bye to you and wish you a good shift.” Buck nudges his shoulder.
“I’ve done that with Chimney before, doesn’t mean I like him.” Hen points out.
“You’re married to a woman and he’s your best friend. That’s completely different.” Eddie says. “But to Buck’s point, y/n likes you. We saw it in their behavior.”
“Look, just text them that you’d love to hangout and when are they free. It’s that simple.” Hen tells Ravi. “You have your phone with you?”
“Yeah…” Ravi shifts in his seat to pull his phone out of his pocket.
Ravi types out a text message and shows it to Hen before sending it.
Ravi: hey y/n, just finished the call. I would love to hang out sometime. When are you free?
Several days later, you and Ravi meet at a local pizza shop. You’re nervous as you walk up to the restaurant, hands clammy and legs shaking like a baby deer. The gust of air almost knocks you back as you open the door.
You take a look around a see Ravi sitting at a small table in the corner. He looks up at the sound of the cashier welcoming you in. He jumps up immediately and smooths his shirt down.
“Hey.” You wave, approaching the table.
“Hi, how are you? You look nice.”
“Thank you. I’m good, how are you? It’s so weird seeing you not in uniform.” You laugh.
“I’m great.” He smiles. “It does feel weird, right?”
“Yeah…” You take the seat that Ravi has pulled out for you. “How are you feeling? Our last call yesterday was pretty rough.”
“My arms are a little sore but it could be worse.” He shrugs. “What about you?”
“I was so exhausted. I slept for like 10 hours today.” Ravi laughs at that. “I’m starving too.”
“Me too. What kind of pizza do you like? Maybe we can share or get two to try?”
“Yeah, I like that idea.” You smile. Ravi smiles back at you. You talk briefly about the pizzas you want to order.
“I’ll go order, what do you want to drink?” He stands, peering down at you. You pull out your wallet to give him money to pay but he shakes his head. “I’ve got it.”
“Are you sure?”
“Yeah, my treat.” He grins before running off to order.
You’re fiddling with your thumbs under the table as Ravi comes back and hands you your drink. “Thanks.”
“Of course.” The smile he’s wearing has your heart racing and you can feel a sheen of sweat on your brow bone.
You go to speak to fill the quiet space but Ravi seems to have the same idea as he speaks at the same time.
“Sorry…”
“I’m sorry, what were you going to say?”
“No, please. You go ahead.”
You’re both stumbling over each other to speak. Ravi’s the first to laugh, taking a sip of his soda.
“Oh! I forgot to tell you but I told Buck to stop calling you probie. Trust me, I know how annoying it gets.”
“You didn’t have to do that. I know he’s joking. It doesn’t bother me too much anymore.”
“Well, you deserve to be called by your name and not by your skills or experience.”
You feel heat rise to your cheeks as you find the straw wrapper interesting. It’s the bare minimum but you can’t get over how kind he is to you. Really, it’s not just you. You’ve seen the way he interacts with victims or community members.
Ravi has a way of making people feel welcome and supported and he’s very easy on the eyes. You can’t imagine how he’s single. You only know because he’s mentioned it in passing. Some part of you was hoping that was his way of hinting feelings toward you.
You’re not even sure if he has feelings for you, that’s why you’ve disguised your feelings as simply being friends. That’s why you asked to hangout instead of asking him on a date.
You’re broken out of your thoughts by the smell of cheese being passed across your face. Both pizzas are placed on top of the stands as you’re given two plates.
Ravi kindly thanks the waiter. “Looks good.”
“Smells good too.” You point out as you both dig in. “This one has a good cheese pull.”
“I love the crust. It’s not too soft or too hard.” He meets your eyes. “It’s been really nice having you on the team.”
“Really? It’s been nice having you as my trainer. You’re really good at it. Thank you for being so patient with me.”
“You pick up on things quickly.” He assures. “You’re good at what you do.”
“Thanks Ravi.”
After pizza, you don’t want to stop spending time with Ravi. You’ve both been asking questions about why you became a firefighter and learning more about each others’ personal lives.
You ask if he’d like to walk at a nearby park to walk off the big meal you’d just finished.
You’re both too full and a little bit too shy to make any conversation as you walk along a path. Families and couples are still out, enjoying the cool summer night air.
“Y/n?” Ravi stops abruptly. “Is this a date? He blurts out.
“Oh? Um, I-“
“It’s okay! I was just wondering because usually dates imply people like each other.”He shoves his hands in his pocket. “Not that I don’t like you! I-“
“I like you too.” You bite your lip.
“You do?”
“Yes, wait, did you mean like like or just friend like? Oh my god, this is so embarrassing. I’m really sorry, I-“
Ravi steps forward and kisses your cheek. His lips, cold from the soda he took to go, press against your flushed cheeks.
“I like you too.” He whispers against your cheek. His hands find yours as he pulls back.
“Oh… that’s good.” You whisper back, squeezing his hands.
“Can I drive you home?” All you can do is nod as you walk along side him back to the restaurant, hand in hand.
The next day, you’re already at work when Ravi makes his way in. The A-shift is just leaving when he’s stopped by Buck.
“How was the date?”
“Good.” Ravi smiles, face turned to the ground.
“So, it was a date?” Buck wiggles his brows.
“Yeah, it was.” Ravi smiles, his eyes drifting past Buck as he sees you button up your shirt, listening to something Hen is saying.
“We’re glad it went well.” Eddie nudges his shoulder as he walks by.
“We knew it would.” Chim smiles.
“Have a good shift, loverboy.” Buck teases as he catches you and Ravi smiling at each other.
